Slide out drawer in basement storage

Decided to upgrade the basement storage on our 2017 Silverback 35IK after I discovered that MorRyde has recently released a new 72” model slide out drawer, with 500 pound capacity. This new model has levers on each end to slide out from both sides of RV. (Previously this dual slide feature was only available on the 90” version). We went with the 29”x72” that fits perfectly. I relocated the 50amp cord reel that came from factory mounted in basement, to now mount in the slide out drawer). we still have room to put tables and chairs beside the drawer, leaning against bedroom wall of basement area. Looks nice. Unfortunately I have too much stuff in the bay, that if I were to put a sliding tray in, I don't think I would be able to get everything in that I need to get in. Hmm, maybe that's not a bad thing.

I'd not deny these slide out trays are handy in some situations, but after evaluating what we have in the pass thru storage that could go on the tray and how the dead space on either side of the tray could be repurposed with what was left over ... it just didn't work out for us. These trays sure caught my eye initially however.

Maybe it's my 30 years in stacking and packing aircraft containers trying to get everything in so we didn't need another aircraft but the game of "Tetris" I go through fitting things in the storage bay thing works for me. Also makes everything blocked and braced so nothing shifts in transit.

I'd be afraid of something shifting that I had in the space besides the tray and jamming it where I couldn't pull it out. Not sure if that ever happens with those but is a concern I have with them, never having had one.

Maybe if the back gets bad and reaching in the compartment gets old someday.

Put in the 90’ one. Best mod I’ve ever done. I did mount the slide on 2x2s. This allowed a lot of extra storage for flat items, corn hole game and the like. I love it.

I have wasted space in the top half of my storage area. Anyone ever think to install a drawer in the top section to utilize open space there.

I also agree that those slide trays create unusable space and are inefficient - if you have a lot of stuff in your basement....I did look into them when they first came out. Nice if you don't need the space.

My basement is pretty full and as a matter of fact, to create more space, I added a second horizontal level by adding a table-like structure using plywood with 9" legs. Its great, room to slide things under and plenty of headroom to add things on time. I added eye hooks on the wooden legs to tie it down to the basement floor.
