Tank heaters

I have a 2018 Cedar Creek 34RL2 Hathaway edition. Does it have tank heaters as standard equipment or option? How do I know if it has heaters? how do they operate?

per the web page tank heaters are listed as standard. you should have on/off switch on your control panel to turn them on and off. Should be a 12 volt system that heats your fresh and grey/black tanks in cold weather.

I found the switch. I feel so stupid. It is the first switch in the switch panel. It's red and lighted when on. Thanks.

i do not know this as an absolute fact, but many people have posted not to turn the tank heaters on unless there is fluid in the tanks. the fluid is need to absorb the heat from the heater pad so that it does not just sit on the plastic tanks and soften the plastic. also, i do not know if the switch directly controls the heating pad or if it just allows power to flow to a temperature activated on-off switch.

The heating pads are thermostatically controlled to turn on at 40 degrees Fahrenheit. You can turn the switch on, but the pads will not heat until that temperature is reached.

I guess the tank heaters are good but other things freeze, the drain lines, mine did and busted. The elbow and gate valves freeze too. I know that Cedar Creek is stretching the truth when they say the camper will take 0 degrees with no freezing if the camper furnace is set to 70 degrees

On my Windjammer there are heat pads on each of the tanks, two large heat pads on the black and gray valves and heat pads on the small portion of black and gray tank drain lines that are exposed beneath the underbelly. Cedar Creek doesn’t do this? This is something I didn’t think to look at while I was checking out Cedar Creeks last weekend.

My Wildcat has one heating pad on each of the 4 tanks -- but none any other place meaning none on any valves nor drain lines.

Yes, all tanks have heating pads on CC. Switch is inside next to water heater switches, usually.

That’s really crazy when you think about it. The exposed valves and drain lines are much more susceptible to freezing than the tanks. I just wish I had heat tape or pads on my low point drains.

Not on the exposed drain lines. The factory shutoff valves on my low point drains are back inside the basement where the furnace provides some heat so they would not normally freeze if the furnace is running.

Yes, there are tank heaters, but no pipe heaters. I am right now in the middle of repairing my kitchen tank drain pipe and replacing a bunch of soggy insulation.



The crack was at the top of the pipe. Here it is removed and you can see the crack. It's over 4 inches long. Since it is the pipe from the tank to the valve, it
completely drained my kitchen tank by way of the insulation!

That makes sense, because there should be no water in the drain lines after the valves unless, in a full hookup situation, you haven’t relieved the vacuum holding the black water in your hose and drain line by opening the gray valve to let air in.

Just another one of those little extras we Windjammer owners enjoy. I just can’t understand why they have discontinued the Windjammer.

To be clear, my post refers to the low point cold and hot water drain lines. Not the waste water drains.

I don’t understand why the drain lines and valves aren’t protected. The drain lines are under insulation but not enough to protect anything. The only way to protect your camper from freezing is keep the grey water lines open and pink stuff in the black water tank or stay in a warm place. The Cedar Creek will go down to 20 degrees but now days if it’s going to be real cold I’ll drain the fresh water tank and grey water tank and put pink stuff in the black water tank. I’ll also winterize the camper, I’ll still keep the camper warm.
