Get a cover
It will protect it regardless.

I keep asking this question.......and no one gives me a good answer.

If what I (you, whomever) have is NOT full body paint, what is it if it's not paint?

I think it's just fiberglass gel coat if you don't have full body paint (and then presumably gel coat over the paint if you do have paint)

OK, I've opened a can of worms about which I am SUPER ignorant.

BUT
Isn't fiberglass gel coat what those shiny SHINY bass boats have? That's not paint.

????

EDIT: Also, if chipping is a problem, why is chipping 'better' on fiberglass gel coat than paint?

I'd imagine you're right. I think it's basically the same stuff that is on shiny bassboats, but likely there's a way to make it shiny or not.

In some more research, I now believe the full body paint is applied OVER the gel coat, not the other way around.

A chip or scratch would be much more evident on the paint. But all RV's are going to take some chips and scratches. And you're either going to have chips + scratches, or chips + scratches + oxidized gel coat + oxidized decals in the long run.

Correct, paint on last.
Anyone with 30 minutes and a kit from West Marine can fix gel coat to where it cannot be noticed.

We have a CC 38EL ordered we should be picking up next week. We got the full body paint. I researched and it seems to me that I will get most or all of my money back when I sell. If not we will enjoy it while we have it.

Not sure if full paint will help on resale,,, but I sure like ours !!!
Put a coat of polish on it in the spring,,, wash it with Auto Wash with Wax,,,
And it shines all summer !!! And no shrinking decals !!!

Red face

Paint is worth it, particularly if unit sits outside and especially in the Texas Sun. otherwise count on your decals falling off in several yrs and substantial fading. Our painted unit is 4 yrs old and looks like new and sits outside in the sun. The reason more non-painted units are sold is that they sell cheaper and the manufacturer sells more RV,s etc. and does not care after the RV leaves the sales lot. Bill- Go Casa

Not sure it would worth what it might cost to have an older unit painted ???

Maaco... just kidding.

I have no idea, but surely there's a few shops in the US that specialize in RV paint.

Actually, it hit me after I typed........there is a place not 2 miles from my house that does RV repair, and says they specialize in "Collision Repair"........which to me means they are a body shop. I think (IF I EVER get home, dunno when at this point) I'll go down there and just jaw with the guy about it.

Custom RV Services
Conway, AR
they have moved from the building in most of the pictures if you Google it. Still in Conway, on US 65.

Dunno what they'd do about the decals. Just make something up, I guess.

There is a place in Auburn GA that specializes in RV repairs and painting. I toured there facility last fall and they can do about anything imaginable. They even made a complete slide out for a 5th wheel painted whole camper looked like brand new from FR. They also replace decals. Place called ApalacheeRV center. 770-868-0999 Later RJD

We lost our water heater cover during a trip, ordered a replacement and had it painted to match. He also painted the ugly black front grill of our Ford Focus to match the rest of the car. He does a magnificent job and we highly recommend him. He specializes in restoring old cars and boats.
