Tree sap

I know this has very likely been covered before but has anyone found a safe awning cleaner that actually removes tree sap. I have tried a few awning cleaners and they do not seem to work much better than hot water and soap. I need something to disolve or cut nasty tree sap.

I have had some luck with WD-40. A more expensive solution would be Acrysol, which is an auto-body solvent.

I've heard mixed results using Simple-Green with 10% bleach mixed in - spray the awning down good with this stuff and then roll the awning up immediately... let it sit a couple days, then un-roll, wash with high pressure hose, and repeat. It might take a few applications...
The only thing I know of that dissolves tree sap immediately is Acetone - but I'm not so sure that would be safe to use on an awning.. Acetone has a tendency to eat plastics..

We parked under a sap spewing pine tree. It was all over the front cap, the LP tank cover and the wardrobe slide topper. Just got it all cleaned up. For the tank cover and slide topper I used hand sanitizer and a tooth brush. Let it stand for 10-15 seconds then agitate with the brush. Wipe with a clean towel and repeat if needed. Some big globby spots took a few turns but it all came out. For the front cover (fiberglass), I found goof off worked better than anything marketed for bugs and tar. Same process as above. Really came off fairly easy.
