We have the GE induction stove in our kitchen. The stove has an induction top and a convection oven. The "burners" are under a flat piece of glass that is level with the countertops (this is not a built in, but, a standard stove) and slightly (about 1/4 in. or less) overlaps them. It is easy to clean since it is solid. I haven't opened up the top, but, it seems relatively thin underneath since the oven almost comes to the top of the stove. We put it in during a remodel, so, everything was measured ahead of time to fit the new cabinets as well. It has 5 heating areas - 4 burners and a warmer (which does get warm to touch when it is on). Best thing, as someone else said, is when you get used to it, the heat regulation is very exacting (assuming the same pan/burner) and very repeatable. One of the burners (large one) will boil a large pot of water in just a couple minutes, so it can be very fast to heat up. It is a different way of cooking, but, the more we use it, the more we like it. Good luck with yours.
