Washing our RV

Any thoughts on just using car wash soap to wash our cedar creek, or should we buy RV soap to wash it with ?

Any quality automotive type wash will work.

Manufacturer recommends using Dawn (original) for the roof. Be careful if you have wax on the sides because Dawn will remove it as it flows down the sidewalls.

For a polish I have used Xtreme Shine which really makes it shine and is suppose to protect from UV sun damage on graphics and paint.

Thinking about going to a product called Wash Wax All. The full kit is kinda expensive but has great reviews.

I understand that you should not use a soap that has a petroleum base to it as it could blister the membrane on the roof which is a costly repair job.

I use car wash soap on the sides and only wax the decals by hand. 3 yrs old and still looks new, well except for the sun faded front cap...

NEVER use dish soap on a vehicle as is destroys clear coats. It's meant for dishes.

Also, never wash in direct sunlight.

I use a product called wash Wax All from Aero Cosmetics. This is a waterless cleaner and wax. I spray this on the mop head wipe on to apply and than change over to the dry mop head to wipe off. I can clean my entire trailer in 4 to 5 hours depending on how dirty the unit is. A lot of this time is spent on the front getting the bugs and road grime off. I have used this in campgrounds and at home. The campgrounds do not complain since no water is used and the ground is not wet from washing my rig. The initial purchase is a little pricey but will worth the cost. Since the towels plus the mop heads are washable and can be used over and over again, the pole with cleaning solutions are also included.

Here is a link if you are interested. https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&ke...l_2m9lcvpg9d_b

I have also cleaned my truck and my wife's car with this product.

X2 plus some comments. Buy the full kit because the little mop head really comes in handy. Easier to get the bugs off with it. I also use the Wash Wax All product on our shower (don't get on the floor-but we have a mat anyway) and on the stainless steel refrigerator doors and dishwasher front. Our refrigerator always looked so bad and this really cuts down fingerprints. And the mop handle has a unique open and close operation so you don't pinch your fingers opening. Also, you can stand on the ground and reach the upper limits of the RV side walls.

For you folks that have Wash Wax All, do you ever wash with soap and water? I'll probably get that package this year but I just don't see how it will remove heavy grime, dirt and the wheels. Comments please.

I take a bucket of water to the wheels and rims only. Since I can do this at home. If I was a full timer I would use the degreaser solution for the rims. I would than use a tire cleaner that is compatible with the rubber.

My procedure for cleaning the trailer for the first in the springtime is as follows. I clean the roof with a compatible product for the roof. I will than clean the entire trailer including the windows with the Wash Wax All products. The tires and rims are than cleaned with a tire cleaner and the rims are washed and polished with AL polished.
I use MOTHERS products on the tires and rims.

I do. We live in an area where coal trucks rule the roads.
There is black grime/grit everywhere on ALL major and secondary roads and it gets on everything.

While Wash Wax All is a good product and cleans and protects pretty well, it is just a spray on wash/wax that you need to use some sort of pad/towel/mop to remove what you spray on.

It does clean well... so as long as you change/clean the pad/towel/mop OFTEN, it could 'wash and wax' at the same time. If there is dirt and mud, you loose the 'washing' or 'rinsing' advantages of a regular wash job and IMHO you could easily scratch the finish if you weren't very diligent in changing/cleaning the pad/towel/mop as you are cleaning.

On just a slightly dusty unit I could see where it might work well but you could never 'dry wash' anything around here with positive results.

I wash with meguires car soap and let dry, then i use an aresol cleaning wax called FW1 cleaner waterless wax. It holds up pretty well. I do this in the fall and spring camper looks good. if it gets dirty in between i just use the meguires wash. That way i'm not stripping the product off like dawn will do. I've used that same product on my truck and it works good. But my corvettes get a completely different treatment.. lol..

One needs to be realistic about it. If I can see sand and actual dirt dried on the lower part of the coach, sure, I am going to get a bucket of car wash and water and use the hose to clean that portion. But I have never had the need to do that any higher than my head. Then I came back with the Aero Wash & Wax and it does a great job that leaves the whole coach looking good.
