Water filters and holding tanks...

Good day All!
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far!
Writing from Calgary Alberta, adding this as my first question is more for us "up north"...
Where is a good place to buy "water filters"?
Not sure how often they should be changed, but after being out only a few weeks this year it's already a medium brown in colour...
Next question is...we have 2 grey holding on our unit..labeled 1 and 2... Not sure which is which...kitchen and bathroom???
As always thanks for the replays!

I don't think you can measure how many gallons or how much time a filter will last. A drop in pressure is a good hint. And, yes any discoloration is a good hint also. As far as the replacements go I start with HD, Lowes, Menards, with possible RV Dealer. I also have two grey tanks. Let the DW do dishes and then check what level you have. It should tell you which is which?

Some have suggested using food dye to track what water goes where.
Dump and clean the tanks then put some food dye in the drain of ONE sink at a time then run a little water and then check each tank one at a time till you find the dye.
Repeat till you have them all done, make notes of what went were so you know later if you need to.

On our 34RLSA gray 1 is the bath and gray 2 is the kitchen.

I have not been able to find an equivalent replacement filter from Lowes, Home Depot or any other home store.

My dealer had one but it is ridiculously expensive. You can order one from FR... but again very expensive.

Hi neighbor,

On our CC we found the galley tank to be labeled #1 and the bathroom tank #2. But just to add to the fun, the shower drains into the galley tank and the bathroom tank only gets water from the small bathroom sink (and the washing machine - which we don't have). So our galley tank fills up quickly and the bathroom tank not so.

As for filters, I haven't had the need to replace mine yet but will probably make arrangements to buy them when we travel down to Montana in late August.

Hi back neighbour!
Interesting to read about both your tanks (shower going into the grey kitchen tank) as will as the filter last that long...
Ours was not to bad going out to "K country" but after a week up by Rocky/Nordegg...wow!
On a side note...did you go to the police college in Hendon?

Water filters and holding tanks...

I did go to Hendon back in 1982. This is somewhere you know about. Did you happen to go there too?

Started my service just down the road from you at Hounslow. After that moved around SW London (Tooting, Kingston, Esher, Molesey and Heathrow).

Interesting to see your filter deteriorated so much near Nordegg. I wonder if this years heavy rains have had any impact on the quality of water in that area?

If you want me to bring a filter 'up norf' for you, PM me. I'm heading 'sarf' for the Labor Day weekend.

We had the same issue of the gray tanks. I made sure both tanks were empty - then filled a 5-gal pail of water into the kitchen sink, drained it out, and then bathroom sink, shower, etc. That was the only way I could be sure of which tank was used for what. Our gray 1 (front) is used for the Shower and Kitchen sink, gray 2 (rear) is used for bathroom vanity and washer (which we don't have). I bought a bayonet valve and use it to balance the water between tanks when the front fills.
