Balky awning retraction

2021 Coachmen Pursuit 27XPS. During my orientation period in the parking lot at the house, the awning had been out and retracted without issue. On the first real road trip, it would not retract. Would move a little, but would not roll up and retract. Fortunately some neighbors were available and provided upward pressure on the crossbar and it retracted. Once home, tested and the same thing happened. Appears the motor is not strong enough to retract.

Anyone else have this kind of problem?

Can the motor be replaced?

Brand and model of awning -might- help with applicable replies.
I have to ask-- were you plugged into shore power when the awning did not want to retract??
Low battery could cause this.
Also it could be a bad motor and yes they are replaceable. Sounds like warranty issue but are you SURE you had good battery voltage???
The awning is 12v and it relies on battery power (which is supplemented by your onboard converter when you are plugged into shore power).

Yes, every time it was connected to shore power. That is what was surprising to me. It comes down fine.
When "assisted" by pushing up to overcome the weight at full extension, it does roll up, but very slowly.
Even if I don't extend the awning fully, retraction is still difficult.
That is why I think the motor is bad, or at least under powered.

Of course it could be the motor but I still suspect low voltage.
It's going to require some trouble shooting. I'd want to test voltage at the motor- while it's running or at least check the wire going to the motor. It sure sounds like low voltage.
You don't say what brand of awning.
We have had discussion about specific awning motor replacements in the past but these were a couple years back. Some here actually purchased auto car window motors that fit their awning. They reported good results but if you are in warranty you don't want to consider that yet.
Check voltage as close to the motor as possible and see what you find.

We have an issue with our awning going in or out, it will run, then stop. Figured out if you push the switch a little sideways when using it, it works fine. Replacement switch should be in soon, we'll change it and see. You may have the same issue. Ours was always plugged in, don't think we tried on battery.

I believe awnings run on 12v, mine does, so you do not have to be connected to shore. You may want to pull the switch and make sure it is sending power when you ask for it. Also, a bad connection on the switch can do some of that.
