Coachmen Concord-Lighted Grab Handle Warning

Had a leak show up in my RV during the weekend deluge while we were camping, tracked it back to the fact that the lighted grab handle was installed upside down, not to mention they depended on the cheap sticky stuff to stop it from leaking. Had to a drill a hole to move the wiring to the top where it belongs, (reversing the handle). Resealed the handle with RV sealant when reinstalling.

Basically what happened was water was running down the handle into the mount, as well as coming in around the mount, filling it up, then running in the wiring hole. From the blistered paint and water marks it has probably been leaking since it left the factory, it just took 3" of steady rain for it to fill up and start leaking inside.

Well that's not good, how can you tell if it's upside down or not? Both ends look the same to me. Thanks Aaron

The easiest way is to pull it off and see where the wires are. Or you can take out the drawer above the fireplace and see where the wires come in, high or low. They are black and white connected to a blue and white and come in through the corner frame of the cabinet.

Another option; you can wait for it to leak and fill up with water.

The handle has the unwired end glued into the bracket, the end with the light just has an O-ring and moves easily allowing water to fill it up.

Okay thanks my friend, I think mine is right, they put a piece of electrical tape around the top , I still have it on, it's probably there holding that O ring, when they put it together, I'll check for sure thanks for the heads up. I could also probably be able to see it if I take the fireplace out. When in Florida Coachmen sent me new one, my board went out. I didn't want to drive back to Virginia without one. So Jason sent it to my CG in Miami. No questions asked. I stripped parts off for extras and threw the rest in the dumpster.

Grab Handle Light

I found the same thing on my 2007 Charleston. Saw some corrosion stuff leaking out the bottom of the handle and took handle off and found LED light in bottom of handle rusted out. Found new LED on Amazon real cheap and got mine in blue. But I did the same mod you did and put light in the top so no water can leak in. So as far as I know they have been installing it wrong at least from 2007. Also I didn't even know that I had a lighted handle. It works with the aisle light switch.
