Freelander 27QB Dinette Replacement - Pics

We have started the process of replacing our dinette and jackknife sofa. This weekend was the demolition and some movement. Sharing pictures and comments...

We removed the dinette and the sofa. We moved the forward bench to replace the sofa. We removed the second bench and then taped out the dimensions of the 53" dual recliner, both closed and opened so we can see how much space we have.

When the recliner is closed, we will have ample walking room. When open, we can get by but it will be tight. We figure that we won't be doing too much walking while the recliner is open.

We're stuck with that stupid junction box in the middle of the floor, as there is a hole in the floor feeding the AC to the galley. Would love to ask the engineer what the thought process was with THAT!

Nate, I doubt anyone who build RVs like ours thinks about someone remodeling them. So, they engineer it with the mindset that if you can't see it, it's okay.

That's why when I've done maintenance or remodels, I always find screws, boards, screw drivers (yes!), PVC chunks, etc....underneath and behind things never designed to be disturbed.

Searching for TV/cable splitters has always left me wondering about what else I can't see that would probably scare me.

Even my wife stated that this was likely a "4:45 on a Friday" build!

Stripped screwheads all over the place, mismatched screws (1", 1.5", 2" - Meh! They're all the same!)...

I just would love to know why they couldn't put the AC feed 12 inches back UNDER the galley! I'm sure there is a logical explanation (I hope!)...

Nonetheless, we're having a good time doing the renovations, and making the rig our own!

Dinette Removed (4x4 Junction box on floor)


Front Dinette bench moved to passenger side to replace Sofa. Cut out for the Exterior Entertainment Center box.


Bench closed - About 14 inches left for storage near door.


Tape indicating a 53" Dual-Recliner love seat in closed position. We ultimately opted for the 67" sofa with the console insert.


Tape indicating the furthest length of the extended recliners - 64"

I am almost positive that junction box comes from your generator and goes to the electrical panel. You could relocate that junction box into the cabinet or under the floor with a watertight box. It would require you to drill a new hole from under.
Interested in seeing the after pictures.

So if the wires coming up through the floor are coming from the generator, and the other side is going to the galley, is that where it joins the shoreline power to the electrical panel?

Since the recliner will be mounted over the junction box, we have no specific reason to move it, other than its in a stupid place!

But, again, why didn't Coachmen put it under the galley (or closer to the shoreline) in the first place?

I know. sometimes we ask questions that need no answer!

The wire actually goes to a receptacle in the shore power compartment. Because there is no transfer switch you have to plug the shore power cord into the receptacle to get power to the panel. And good question about the location. Coachmen would have to answer that one.

Today was recliner day. We got the RecPro Charles 67" with the Console installed. We went with Putty Leather for the lighter color.

This is the recliner closed:

We also installed the second MaxxFan over the recliners. The third one will go in the bathroom next weekend.

We are still looking for options for Lagun table mounts for the Dinette Bench. Something removable when not in use.

Yes....and they allow you to get your legs up most of the way. The dinette will stop your feet...but you can still use the leg lift.

Did you finish the redo on the dinette area? Find your tables?

Hi, Jim...

Yes. We are all done with the dinette/"living room" redo...

We bought the following two folding tables:

They are large and stable enough to be used for a laptop (with a mouse), eat dinner on, and fold up nicely to fit up over the cab when folded. We can also use them either sitting on the bench (passenger side) or in the recliners (driver side).

Going to St. Augustine for the weekend, and I'll try to grab some pics to post.

Your removal of the dinette inspired me to break out the saws. We just wanted more room and now the recliners are not banging on the table.

Because the table is half the size. Wow what a difference.
