Mirada A/C Performance

We have had our 2015 Mirada 35LS for a little over a year now. Our front & rear A/C's are the standard 13.5 units - our dealer didn't upgrade to the 15's even though we're in Florida. The system always seems to struggle to maintain 77 on mild partly sunny days and when we're in the summer heat (90's) it stays in the 80's until after sundown. All shades are down and vents have insulating cushions in them. Also I don't get airflow out of some of the ceiling vents. Dealer said system is working & told us to close front ceiling vents to get airflow out of the rest. Is this common on Miradas? By the way, the rear A/C already failed and was replaced under warranty.

Consider using the direct dump feature to maximize the cold air production. Having a laser temp gun allows you to track just how much cold air is flowing. It seems to me "efficient" functioning us around 25 to 30 degree difference from what it's putting out and the ambient air temp. I'm sure someone will correct me / improve on my basic knowledge on thus topic.

There are 14 years difference between our Miradas, but this might give you an idea if it applies to your AC units.

I have one 13.5 BTU unit, and it keeps my Mirada cool in 115 Deg Phoenix. I added a louvered vent opening directly below the ACs blower outlet. This one simple mod significantly improved the AC units ability to cool the inside of my Mirada

Thanks to both of you. If I use the dump feature the air comes out cold & strong, but it only cools a local area. It just comes straight down. I have a ducted system in my Mirada and the system doesn't seem to be moving much air. Techs say there are no obstructions. Guess I'll have to get one of those devices that will allow me to see in the ductwork.

With all due respect, if it's the dometic it may be a p.o.s. I've had mine replaced after a year as it was no longer cooling properly. Apparently there is a run of these that were poorly produced.

Take the grill assembly off and look at the "box" . Most units have the openings for the duct system within this box forming an either/ or system with the direct discharge grill.Make sure they are not obstructed in any way. (Mine were cut in only half way into the foam).

Also it is very important that the intake airway be completely separated from the discharge when the grill is in place. If air is "short circuiting" It really cuts into the efficiency of the unit and can lead to freeze ups. Most good installers use a high quality duct tape and the poor ones use none. Also check that the Grill matches the "box" for what it is supposed to do.
