Onan Generator

Ever since I bought my new Coachman I have to prime my Onan 4000 generator for at least 1 full minuet to get it to start. Sometimes it needs another 30 seconds or so before it will start. Is this normal?

I have the same condition with mine. 2 years old and it takes 2 -3 primes to get going.

I have been watching others in non electric campgrounds starting theirs and most seem to fire right up after a much shorter time. I worked around portable generators in the construction industry and never ran into this difficult starting procedure.

There is a rod that goes from the choke into a metal cover on the right. If you move that rod to the left it will start right up. I have not discovered how to fix it so I just make that one of my check list items. If you do this once before starting it will be fine the rest of the day if you need to shut down.
