Suspension upgrades

2017 MIRADA. Experienced a lot of side to side movement when passed by semis etc. Has any MIRADA owner done suspension upgrades? Anti sway front/rear, steering stabilization??

I've done just about all of them except upgrading the shocks and they may be in the spring. Started off with the CHF front and rear, steering stabilizer, rear track bar and front end alignment. Those made a considerable difference but had to undo the rear CHF because the rear sway bar would hit the emergency/transmission brake drum on the driveshaft when leveling jacks were down. Later added larger front sway bar and aux rear sway bar and sumo springs.

Now instead of a push from passing semis, it is more of a gentle nudge. Since I did some of the mods together instead of one at a time and testing each, I can't say which one helped the most, but they all work well together. I had done enough research on the F53 chassis to know that I would have to put about $3K into the suspension after purchase. I installed all the parts myself.

Even with all of this, in October I was being passed by 4 very large double wide mobile home halves doing about 80mph on I-65S and there was nothing I could do to stay in the right lane. They pushed me right onto the shoulder. Just lucky there was no bridge. The 1st two passed and I sped up to stay ahead of the next two and got off at the next exit. I needed to fuel up anyway.

I did safe t plus, rear swar bar, rear track bar and did the CHF on the front sway and it made a HUGE HUGE difference. It was a couple grand, but well worth it. I'd highly recommend, best upgrade we have made to our RV. My wife drives it and she one hands it now.

Safe T Plus is a steering stablizer, CHF is the cheap handling fix where you move the bolts on the sway bar.

Mike,
I have a 2012 Mirada 32DS with F53 chassis. Does your RV has the same
F53 chassis? If so, can you please give me the part numbers
of the rear and front SUMO springs that you bought ? How much does cost per piece, front and back?

Nars- best thing to do is to get your gvwr off the manufactures (ford) sticker and call super springs directly. There are a lot options based off so many different weights.

Sumo springs vs Firestrone airbags

I am asking for the preferences of Coachmen motor home owners on improving the ride of their units.

Do you prefer to install Firestone airbags on the rear axle rather SUMO
springs on the front and rear? What are the pros and cons of the two choices?

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT use part numbers from another F53 frame. Even though it’s a F53 each coach builder uses DIFFERENT suspensions. Trust me just finished installing front and rear anti sway bars. Both were returned to Roadmaster because they were the wrong part number for my MIRADA. GVWR is a big factor in which part number to buy. CONTACT Roadmaster’s Customer Service via phone.

You can download the cut sheets from Sumo or contact Sumo Springs directly and they will help you get the proper setup. Every coach and chassis is different which may require different springs or brackets.

Tracks straight down the road. Just did the final adjustment on the safe t plus today. During the first test run down the highway only one semi passed me and it was very stable. I have a 3 hour trip this coming weekend and there will be plenty of semi. Last year when they went by the coach it would way all over.

I was hoping not to have to change shocks as mine also came with Bilsteins. But this is the passenger side front shock. It was leaking oil pretty bad with only 6K miles. I put Bilstein B6s all around. Hope they do better.
