Never heard that one. For ME, it has always seemed like a lazy way to say the word "borrow". Starts with "borrow ditch", then transitions to "barra ditch", then ends up as "bar ditch". Can't see the parallel from "tank" to "pond". ;-)

Just trying to show what different names similar items have in different parts of the country.
Haha... Even old timer Engineers that I worked with called them "bar" ditches, in fact it was those old guys that told me the origins of the term. I expect most people DO call them bar ditches... I was just having an OCD moment. LOL!
We have that at work... Ever hear of a Mad Axe? Me either until I started working at this company. Turns out they mean Mattock. But somewhere along the way years ago.
