Best Tires??

So its time for a set of new tires for the WF. Any recommendations? I definitely want to go with E rated tires.

HAHA, Yeah, I read a lot of them and right back here lol. Was just wondering if the Aviator guys here had some experience with tires. But I may have answered my own question. Looking hard at the Goodyear Endurance tres

Just remember, even the best, most expensive, highest rated, tires won't be any better than a cheap OEM tire if you overload,and/or run under-inflated.


When it comes time to replace my tires I'll be taking a good look at the Goodyear Endurance tires.

I got Endurance tires last spring and drove them 2,500 miles last spring. Made in the USA and looks like a fine tire. But this is only the first replacement tires I purchased so what do I know.

Both myself and Blackhatmike (Eddie) went with Maxxis load range E tires. No problems for either of us yet. The originals that came with the Wright-Flyers are marginal and Eddie had several blow out. I had only one fail but that was enough to convince me to upgrade.

I ended up going with the Goodyear Endurance tires. E load rated and N speed rating. AND, made in good ole USA!.

Do they offer D on 14" wheels?

One thing I noticed, none of the wheels have balance weights on them! Is that typical??

Yeah that's normal. I asked the same thing when I had my Carlisle tires put on my Crusader. I asked the guy if he balanced them and he most trailer tires do not get balanced.

That's odd, very odd. wonder why they don't get balanced? Seems balancing would extend the life of the tires.

Balancing doesn't do as much to improve tire life as it does to improve the life of the trailer. Fewer pieces shaken loose.

FWIW, again from my experience in the industry, many customers refuse to pay for balancing trailer tires so unless the Dealer provides free wheel balancing they often aren't balanced.

Balancing of new tires is included in the price structure of the tire when there is no extra charge. This the reason there is so much disparity in price for the same tires around town. Some price tires including new Valve Stem, Balancing, and free rotations. Others charge extra. Since they all have to cover their overhead you can rest assured you are paying for the Balancing etc somehow. Either in the price or as extra's on the invoice.

Something many people don't know is that up until the mid 60's a lot of people never balanced the rear tires on cars and pickups. Only the steer axle tires and that was because they could feel the vibration readily in their hands. With the change to radial tires that occurred about 1965 on American cars, balancing ALL wheels became a standard ------except for trailers.

You also don't see shock absorbers as standard equipment. The cost to add them at the factory would be negligible compared to the benefit. Manufacturer's and Dealers would rather sell them as an "Add-On" and bank the extra profit margin than include them. A basic shock absorber can cost less than $15 with the mounting a few $$ more when included at the factory level.

Just think how much less porpoising and sway you could do away with with shocks on your trailer but here we are-------

According to Maxxis' website they do have a 205/75R14 in D (see specs in URL below, it's the tire with the 2,040lb load rating)

However, I cannot find a single place to order that tire and searching for the part number only returns Maxxis' website. Search for the LRC part number and you can find it all over the place.

The Goodyear Endurance is available in LRD in that same size, but I think you knew that from the other thread discussing these same tires.

So I've read so much about tires and haven't found anyone using Les Schwab. I really like their service for auto tires. Does anyone have experience with them?
