Would like to get a small inverter installed to run the fridge while driving. I always seem to forget to turn off the propane when gassing up. I really only want to run the fridge on the inverter. If you installed one, where did you stick it??

I learned that my 6 cu. ft. fridge was about 300 watts on AC. Do you know what wattage your 18 cu. ft. it is? You will need your inverter within 6 feet of your batteries to keep 12v DC cable runs under 10 feet. You will also need a transfer switch to switch back to shore power when available. A 1000 watt inverter will need a 2 AWG cable.

You don't need to turn this off.

When the vehicle’s ignition switch is turned
off when stopping to refuel, there is no need
to manually turn off the refrigerator to
prevent the gas flame from lighting.
Incorporated into the electronic controls is a
safety delay. This will prevent the burner from
lighting for approximately 25 minutes after the
ignition key is turned off.
I believe the 18 CF refers in the X Models are Norcold. I will have to go to the RV and check what their manual says. Good info on the Dometic ones tho..
The NEW 18CF PolarMax Fridges are Norcold/Thetford and they DO NOT shut off the propane. I just got off the phone with the Customer Service at Thetford and they told me this unit is not as SMART as the Dometic ones and for saftey, you should turn it off when gassing your RV. I usually do not since the fridge is on the other side of the RV gas tank. What do you folks do that have the new big 18CF one??
