30 DS pulling a 2 dr Wrangler

We have a 2015 FR3 30DS and plan on pulling a 2006 Jeep Wrangler X. Is there anyone out there with a similar matchup? If so, do you use a supplemental braking system? If so, which one and if not, why not?

Yes I have the same setup. I use the invizabrake system. In most states it's required and I also want to be as safe as possible. Its not t cheap but well worth it.

Slightly older jeep. But I use the rvi2 brake. And yes required in most states.

My vote is the RVIbrake2. Simple and about half the weight and size of other systems. It can be used in another unit if you trade for a newer vehicle. It also only takes about 1/2 second to fully apply. Check out the videos at their website.

2014 Sunseeker towing 2015 Jeep Wrangler with invisa brake went from Arkansas to east coast up to Maine and back no problems.

We have a 2013 FR 317ODS. For the first time I pulled my 04 Jeep Wrangler 2dr on a trip from Oklahoma to Galveston, Texas. I did not have supp. brake and it pulled fantastic, the MH did not even know it was back there. Three cars tangled and wrecked right in front of us at about 2am with just two lanes of traffic. With road completely blocked, I buried the brake pedal and held on. The motorhome came to a short, straight stop with NO problem. I had checked and in Okla. and Texas towed vehicle must have supp brake system if weight exceeds 3000lbs. My Jeeps stated weight is 3100. OK, I cheated by 100lbs. If I were going through areawith steep hills, I would probably get a supp brake system. You can check towing laws on line fir every state

I have a 30DS and pull a 2015 2door Wrangler. Choose the Blue Ox patriot system. To me it was the least intrusive install and the remote lets you see what the brake is doing. I wouldn't tow it without the brake.

We tow a 2015 2 door Wrangler behind a 2016 3010DS. Use the Brake Buddy system. Super satisfied. Easy to set up. No problems encountered.

We have a 2016 FR3 30 DS pulling a 2012 2-door Wrangler (stick-shift). Toad is an easy flat-tow, tracks motorhome nicely. Supplemental brakes provided by Brake Buddy, bought on Craigslist for $100. Hope that helps.

We have an FR3 30DS, and are pulling a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Xlimited 4dr. We are using Blue Ox tow bar, and INVISABRAKE installed in jeep. At first the switching to Neutral on the Case was super hard, and at times we had to engage the 4WD to move the lever to the 2WD, but as we have used it more it's getting easier. I suggest the brake, it helps in the mountains tremendously.

I flat tow my 2-dr Wrangler all the time... just got back from a 2000 mile trip from Oregon to Washington, thru Montana to Yellowstone Wy and back to Oregon. We encountered high winds from every direction you can think of.... bumpy roads, steep hills and long downhills...
I've never even considered a tow brake for my Wrangler....
My 30DS never knew it was back there. We had hard braking as well (to avoid a wreck) and never had an issue. On the long downhills, I used the tow / haul mode to keep the motorhome from running away and in most cases kept the engine at 2900 to 3100 with no issues and never hit the brakes.

I've towed jeeps behind motor homes for years and years, over 20 years. Why? I'm a total Jeep lover and have been driving and owning jeeps since l was 9 yrs old, that's since 1974. I've never used any kind of extra brake system and have been up n over the Rockies many times. Here are sum tips in using your brakes. 1) when going up the big mountain don't use your brakes. Your motor home will be working its guts out just trying to pull its self and your tow Jeep up the hill. Using your brakes while trying to pull up a mountain won't help. If you can not maintain 41mph put your 4-way flashers on any time your at 40mph or slower. 2) going down the big mountain shift into a lower gear to use your engine to help hold back. Do not ride your brakes to help control speed. When you need to slow down, and do slow down sooner rather than later, jump on your brakes firmly and get your rig slowed quickly, then get off your brakes as fast as you can. Remember if you slow below 41mph to put on your 4-way blinkers. Stay off your brakes as your motor home starts to pick up speed allowing your brakes to cool. Then when it's time to slow down again, repeat the process. Alway keep your speed under control. Wet/snow/ice roads are a completely different braking use process. Going down the Rockies I never exceed 50mph and brake hard n fast to 35mph. Once speed picks back up to around 50, it's back down to around 35. Keep your brakes cool as best you can. That funny smell you smell is the smell of burning brakes from the vehicles in front of you. Be safe out there, and always keep your eye peeled for any sign that says: "Minimum maintenance road, travel at your own risk." Once you see that sign, it's time to pull over, unhook your Jeep and go explore. Oh and that bit about using your brakes on the uphill side... I was just clowning around.

Just a side note, because my Jeep rides on 37x12.50x20 Cooper Discover SST Pro's, she rides on a trailer these days. Trailer has 4-wheel electric brakes.

We flat tow our 2011 automatic 2-door Wrangler with Brake Buddy, brake required in CA. Never had any problems and can hardly tell it's back there. We put the tranny into N, shift the transfer case to N, then it can be put into P so the key can be removed, leaving transfer case in N.
