Added external water inlet on FR3

Thought I would share my latest project to my 2014, FR3 25DS. I wanted to add an external water fill for city water and tank water. The first picture shows the location where I put the city water connect inlet. The second picture shows city water coming in from the left, going through the water filter, out of filter over to a pressure regulator (50-55psi) on the right, then down to the main shut off valve. After the shut off valve, I added an in-line water pressure gage as a visual safety precaution so I can monitor the water pressure as it goes into the unit. From there water can be directed to use either city water or to fill water tank by turning one of the on/off valves, which ever one is needed. Also added a clamp on the right to hold an extra new water filter when needed. Not really needed but added a hose fitting to the panel so I have a place to keep the green/black Y hose spigot. Keeps it up out of the way until I need to use it. Now the only thing outside of the motorhome is a hose going from the MH to the city water spigot.

Looks really good Mr. J! At first glance it looked confusing, but second glance shows a lot of thought went into it. I'll bookmark this so when I feel ambitious I might try and do the same. thanks for sharing.

I noticed the plug right under the water filter. Is that for washout? If so, did you install it yourself? Again, thanks for sharing.

backflush/siphon valve missing

Mr J, Looks like you did a lot of thought and planning. Looks good with one exception. You don't have an anti backflush/siphon valve installed between you shut off valve and the blackwater flush inlet. With a single input line, this a health department requirement by most states (a really good safety item). Luckily you have enough room to install one.

I'm guessing you are referring to the black and green Y fitting. At this time it is not for Blk tank flush. It only has a dummy hose fitting mounted in the panel for now until I am ready to put Blk tank flush system in.. I just use it to hold my hose Y adapter to keep clean and up out of the way.

ImQAJack, You are right, I do not have a backflush/siphon valve installed, mainly because I do not have a back flush system on the unit yet. At this point the only water coming in goes either to the onboard water holding tank connection or to the fresh water fill connection. The only back flush valve is built into the water inlet that is mounted on the outside of the unit by the wheel well. I plan on adding a back flush system to the unit at a later date. Thanks

Mis-View (alt Config)

Mr J, Yes your right, I was in error. I've been warning lots of other owners of different units about hooking up the backflush system to there main water without vacuum breaker/anti-siphon values. I attached a pic of my original (factory conf) and my modify system.

Another item you may consider. I remove factory light an installed a led light strip controlled a mag switch. The strip light is mounted to the interior side of the door frame.

Looks good, so many ways to re-configure these units. I am doing the same thing with the shower hook-up as far as using a GH. Have the adapter for the garden hose, just didn't have it on when I took the picture. Do you have much pressure when using the GH from the shower hook-up?

Thanks, I thought I would need to drill out that tiny hole, didn't look like much water would flow through it. Will give it a shot.

Mr. J, a couple more questions, did you buy the short hoses of did you make them? Also, what brand of filter are you using? You wouldn't happen to have a "parts list" of everything you used? Thanks, and again great job
Jim

Hey Jim,
The hose is a 10' water hose cut to lengths that I needed. Most of the 1/2" pvc tubing and fittings I got a Menards or Lowe's. I don't have a complete list but here is what I ordered from Amazon for the project.

1ea. Valterra AO1-0175LF Blk. Rv water inlet with back flush valve built in, 2 3/4" metal flange with 1/2 female pipe thd.

1ea. YZM single scale pressure gag. 2 1/2" dial, bottom mount 3/4" female NPT connector.

1ea. Valterra Brass AOL-1122VP flow regulator. 50-55 PSI.

2 pack AQUA Crest Rv inline water filter. $27.49
2ea. fire ext.mounting brackets with straps. Had to shorten the straps to fit water filter. Could have taken straps off and used velcro straps, would have been easer.

1ea. 1/2" male pipe - 1/2" hose barb to fit one end of water hose connecting to the water inlet on outside of unit.

6ea. 90 deg. female hose to male hose fittings. 5 go inside and one goes on hose that connects to water inlet on outside of unit so water hose hangs straight down.

I think that is most of it, hope that helps somewhat.
