Adjustable power captain’s chair (driver’s seat) FR3

I added power base to the driver’s seat that comes with the FR3.
Running it on an old scooter battery for now.
Only took a few hours.

Nice. I've been wanting to do this mod for my rig too. With the new adjustable seat how is the overall range of the seat height compared to the original height? Can you get the seat past the steering wheel? The extra seat when we are set up in camp is nice to have and right now the seat gets stuck on the steering wheel.

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian,
Here are some pictures of the height adjustment. It goes from about 15 1/2” to 17” to the seam of the seat. Both the front and back of the seat move independently, so plenty of customizing can be done. I am taking a long ride this weekend and will see if it needs to raised a half inch or not, my wife is a bit shorter and I will se how it works for her as well. The original seat was most likely at about 18” which most agree was to high.

I also included a passenger seat photo which is about 16”, I had put in a new base (7”) which lowered it to 15 1/2, then put some washers on top of the base in the front to level and raise the seat just a bit. I also cut new holes in the passenger base to shift it to the left so it can spin and clear the right hand wall.

The power slide moves a ton back and forth, so no problem clearing the steering wheel when spinning it.

I have 2 9” and 1 7” base I don’t need if anyone near Philly wants them. I’m in Mount Laurel NJ.

I want to do the same thing to my drivers seat. Did you need to order any additional mounting hardware or did needed mounting hardware come with the swivel and power pedestals?

The additional hardware I needed was a piece of heavy “C” channel steel ( 2 pieces cut to about 15” )which I drilled to match up with holes on the base and the power unit which do not match up. 8 holes total four on each piece. Needed 4 additional nut and locking bolt sets to complete the attachment, 4 were reused. The power unit lines up with holes on the seat so no drilling required there.

Just got back today, the seat worked out perfectly. The front and rear adjustments were key. I was able to find a very comfortable setup.

Install

I am trying this using your directions. One question is did you install and then assemble? If not how did you get the long base bolts installed. I can't seem to get them in to long.
Thanks.
Great instructions and pictures.

I did assemble prior to installing. I believe I had to spin the base to drop the bolts in all the way and then drop the whole seat down lining up with the holes. I did it solo but a helper to line up the bolts would have been a big help.

One recommendation, if I did it again I would use square tubing instead of “c” channel for the brackets that need to be made. If you are not dead center drilling your holes it can be a pain to tighten the bolts because the socket will not fit in the channel.

Thanks. Yea, I found out about dead center the hard way. But on the bright side, I don't have to hold it when tightening.
