I appreciate all this info. There is nothing like real experiential data. I will definitely have to increase the gas budget when I move from a C to an A.
Thanks! Definitely something isn't right. I've tried with and without water in the tanks, with and without the toad and with and without the generator and I've never gotten close to 7 anything. Low 6's is the best we've done. Our weight isn't too much of an issue either. We don't have anything we didn't have in the Forester as we literally parked both side by side at the dealer and swapped everything out. If anything, we've taken a few things out and not put them back. I plan on having the alignment checked as well to see if that may be the cause.
Here's a link to every fill up we've had over the past 16.5k miles with our 2016 FR3. Most of it includes towing a 2dr Wrangler but some trips don't. We usually have the generator going too as it is hottttt in Florida and we need the house AC running.
There's no magic pill besides downsize to a smaller RV or get a diesel pusher, which is a crazy answer to save a couple hundred dollars a trip. When doing fuel guestimates, I use 6.5 mpg to get an idea of gas cost for a trip, and we set cruise at 65 mph. We use tow/haul when towing. It'll definitely prevent you from willy-nilly driving the RV anywhere. We're going straight to the campsite...lol.
