FR3 Air Conditioning

Let me start that my now menopausal wife likes a cold camper! I have noted that some have had issues with their AC units not cooling sufficiently. I'm looking for input from FR3 owners: when summer camping with outside temps in the 90's, does the unit keep the inside relatively cool? Thanks.

We survived 102F in Phoenix last April but we will add a second unit this Spring for our May visit.

We will install a separate non ducted unit on its own 30 amp circuit in the bedroom.

I did notice that FR3's are now listed online as shipping the 18,000 BTU Atwood AC units. Curious if anyone has any experience with these new AC units?

So, if your FR3 is less than one year old, the AC does not keep up at 15K, will they install the new unit as warranty?

dream on I want to get in line if they do. also if the units are 18000 will the 30 amp system carry it????

???? just called an atwood dealer and inquired about the 18000 btu model and was told when they looked it up, it only puts out 15000 btu ???? it is offered with heat pump though, again only 15000 output maybe someone else can clarify this?

According to the AirCommand website, the 18K unit only pulls 13.9 FLA when cooling. It also has a built in heat pump and 55dB on the low fan setting.

The information say 18K equivalent testing. The manual states 15K. Nice features though, three speed fan with Auto, timer, and a very nice thermostat.

Not sure if it can be a direct replacement to the current model.

just priced a 13500 btu on line(new) for just over $400 and a local rv tech will install it for $150 in the rear over head opening and furnish cable and and an end for it. brings the total to around $550. and the total cooling btu to 28500 btu think I will go that route I can always plug an extra cable in to power source when it gets hot enough.

Would you have to upgrade from 30 amp to 50?

I think he is running a separate cable to the power pole when needed.

I used the new Atwood in the heat pump mode and it worked great. In order for the heat pump to work the outside temperature needs to be above 45. It kept the unit nice and warm and we did not need to use the propane furnace.

We have been using the furnace. Its not that great... Not as good as the furnace in the hurricane. However.. Lots of heat goes into the washroom... So we keep that door open. We will change out that furnace vent for one that closes off

ok I have the 15000 btu ac in the front of my fr3 thirty footer and planning on installing a 13500 in the rear if anyone already has done this --- how does it cool the coach in real hot weather with both ac"s running. would like to know how one 15000 and one 13500 work or.... if you have both 13500 , how do they work in really hot weather 95-110 F. ?? I am planning on only using the 13500 with the 15000, but if someone has already don't this and it is still not desireable , maybe I will get a 15000 for the rear to go with the front one. I would rather not be "overkill" on this installation.

We will have a 13.5 added in Phoenix on May 4th. We added a dedicated 30 amp circuit for it. We will give details when we can.

Ihave a 1500 on front of my fr3, but is not quite enough- Have ordered a 13500 should be here Monday Hope the two will be enough- have been told that the rear ac will not help very much to cool the front down any more. Hope that is not true, it looks like it would help the front to get cooler to me.
