Fr3 ford v10 engine

How many of you fr3rs have had a problem with your v10. We just got our fr3 back from the ford truck shop today. We had a cam follower roller fail and it wiped out the right cam shaft. Ford replaced all 30 of the followers under warranty. Thank goodness it was still under ford warranty. Ford was very good about the whole thing. They had to pay for the 150 mile tow plus the work. We have 35000 miles on our rig.

No problems with mine. It still only has 18,000 miles on it though. However, my tow vehicle I used for my travel trailer is a 2000 F250 with a V10. Only problem I ever had, other then tree rats chewing things, was an emissions sensor that was covered under warranty.

Only have 3000+ miles on mine. Barely past the first oil change. But I don't think mine was one of the chassis. [emoji106]

Ford V10

If you have one built between 2012 and 2016 you should open the link because it sounds like you only have until 7-31.

why would you only have until this year? I took ownership in '17, it has a 5 year power train warranty on it.

Ford v10

I believe the difference is that under the program mentioned you can take it in and have it done until that date even though it hasn’t failed, after that date you wait until it fails if it does. Does that make sense. If you go for 5 years but low mileage it may fail then be out of warranty, this way you get it replaced now instead of waiting to see what happens. They cannot keep a program like that open forever.

All programs put out by manufacturers are different, but I have seen it done that way before in my 54 years in the car and truck repair business.

That's interesting, the link that IWANNACAMP posted does not mention F53 chassis which is what FR3 uses. I am going to seriously look into this. My unit is a 2017 FR3 but that will have a 2016 chassis.

Thanks for putting this out there. These Forums are awesome.

Could you please follow up your post with year of chassis you have and any other info you can muster up? Possibly the VIN? Thanks.

Mine is a 2011 chassis and I have 40k miles and no problems. bought it used last year. Scares me though to here of these problems? When I bought it . I changed the oil and spark plugs.

My only issue is with the trany has a hard time shifting out of 4th gear on a grade.
I am planning to drop the trany's oil pan , change all the filters and refill with new oil. I am hoping that will help, sure won't hurt!?

Cheers

Our fr3 is a 2016 f53 was built in 2015. The only indicator I had was we had a light clicking sound on our way back from Boston last year. The mh was parked for the winter and when I started To go to the coast it was a little louder. When we got back I was parked next to a wall on the right side and had the door open and the sound was real loud.
Then I contacted ford and asked to have it towed to the nearest truck shop and that was 150 miles away. Ford was great about the whole thing. I would say if you have any louder valve train noise have a good ford truck shop check it out. I did ask the service writer if they have see a lot of these and he said YES.

Good luck and happy travels.

Cariboo Camper - did you get any info regarding whether this applies to F53 chassis?

No I did not. I haven't had time to look into this but I definitely plan to, been busy lately. Not sure how to start but I think a good start would be google or maybe even contacting Ford, might even start at local ford dealer. Got to be some way to get a list of serial numbers on affected engines.

If I get anywhere in the next few days I will post back here.

Just a suggestion, go to authorized ford truck shop or a commercial ford truck dealer with shop.

Good luck.

Ford Customer Satisfaction Program 17B30

We have a 2015 6.8L V-10 F450. I did not receive a notice from Ford, but I contacted them via chat room as was told this program was only for [U]commercial[U] vehicles. Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

I have a 2016 FR3 28ds. Last year on my trip back home my unit would not start. It would start after the ABS light went out it would start. They changed a relay and said it was fixed. I'm getting ready for another road trip and as I prepare for my departure I have the same problem of not firing over. Even with awaiting the abs light to go out it wont start. I wait and press the accelerator pedal down and then release and some times it starts. I'm awaiting for a call back from my local dealerships to get an appointment to take in.

I checked today on the Ford Owner site, using my VIN, the program does not appear for my F53 (2015 chassis). I can find it by searching on Customer Satisfaction Programs, for the F59 chassis, but not F53. I am interested because I was on a trip a few weeks back and the orange wrench light came on mysteriously, and the FR3 would not engage the cruise control, I guess it was in limp home mode. It cleared up after I pulled over and turned the engine off and restarted. I checked with a code reader and there were no codes set.
