FR3 Heat Duct Improvment

Were having heating issues keeping the bedroom in our 2019 33DS warm

There is only (1) One heat vent located on the floor under the bed.

The duct travels from the kitchen, inside the bathroom wall under the shower and into the bedroom. It is made of paper thin aluminum foil material and has holes or prone to tearing.

Assuming I could possibly snake a new upgraded ductwork into the bedroom

Would something like this help with insulating and holding heat?

Im not looking to add a vent, just replace the paper thin ductwork that IMO leaks heat.

That would absolutely help if you have room to run it. My TT has a similarly run duct that goes cold by the time it reaches the bed room but I don't have room to run a larger diameter duct so I'm stuck. I hope you have more room to run an insulated duct.

Hi Ya'll again 2019 FR3 33DS
I haven't run the gas heat but a couple of times, use the fireplace. Don't run heat at night just several blankets.
You got my curiosity up so I went and looked. The duct does run under the shower but. I took the cap off the access hole and looked under as best i could. The duck runs under the shower over the shower drain. Mine is crushed to about half where it goes over the shower drain. Looks like the last thing they did was put in the shower floor and at the same time crushed the duct. There is no room under there so I don't know if there is a way to fix it. Going to get a mirror and look some more.
Also looking into the hole there is a T just before the bedroom vent. Another duct comes off, can't tell just yet, but it looks like it goes down under the floor!!??.
Going after a mirror. Might be a good reason to need to get one of those fiber camera things.

I think they make transition pieces that to from 4" round to 2x6" rectangular. You could cut the duct and insert a pair of these, back to back. Of course you would probably have to take the shower floor out to do this.

Nope not going to take that shower out, Thanks for your feedback - I will have to think of another way to heat that back room!

So, when we first got our 2019 33ds, we noticed that we weren't getting enough warm air back to the master bedroom. I started doing the same research and after taking off the cover on the inside of the RV (under the stove), I found that the duct to the master bedroom had twisted off and was just sitting about 2" from the "distribution box".

Once I reconnected the duct to the box, I had great airflow and warmth back to the master bedroom with not a lot of heat loss.

Have you taken a look at that area to make sure all of your ducts are connected..??

Bear in mind that heat leaking from that paper-thin duct is not all bad if there are no tears in it. Since the water lines usually run right against the outside walls, that leaking heat helps keep the water lines running near the duct warmer in below-freezing conditions.

I hear ya NXR - wife desires more heat, so she takes precedent over potentially freezing water pipes. :-) Now that I dug into the problem, I can't leave it without doing something. My curse

We dont travel too much in climates that freeze the lines

OK I'm not a tech guy. Got a picture of the mashed heat duct under the shower but, duh, can't figure out how to post it. I had also stated that another duct came off just before the bedroom vent and that it looks like it went down under the floor. Well it does and you may already know this but it goes out into the low point drain outside compartment. If you take off the right access hole cap you will see the duct that comes thru the floor. Guess this is to keep from freezing. That could be where a lot of the heat is going. It is not a completely enclosed compartment so we are heating the outside. Considering just pinching it off.
Still working on the picture.

If you are using a computer, make the picture file(s) available to the computer, on the hard drive, on a memory key, or with the camera/phone coupled to the computer via USB cable.
  • In the editor either:
  • Click the paper-click icon at the top of the editor, next to the smiley face, or
  • Scroll down past the bottom of the editor. In Additional Options, click Manage Attachments.
  • Both options do the same thing. They bring up a pop window that lets you attach 1-5 attachments.
  • Click the first Choose File button. It will bring up a file explorer dialog.
  • Navigate to the first picture and click "Open."
  • Repeat up to four more times.
    [* ]Click "Upload".
  • Click "Close Window".
Be careful about closing the duct that heats the water compartment if you camp in freezing weather. (We do from time to time.)

Finally got a picture. Could not get it to work on my MAC laptop but Windows on a friends worked.
This is under the shower where the duct is crushed between the drain and the shower floor. I see no way of fixing without taking the floor up. Not gonna.

Is that duct running under the horizontal section of the drain?

Yea sorry. The picture is kinda sideways. The black drain pipe is is on the bottom and the duct runs over it. There is about the same amount of space over and under the pipe so rerouting it under would not help.

I spent the last week in the Smoky mountains where the average night time temp was around 33 degrees. I had previously purchased an electric space heater and I used it this past week in the bedroom. I also closed the bedroom door and it kept the room nice and cozy. That might be an option for you instead of rerouting heater duct work.

Here is an example of the heater I have.

I typically boondock or am not connected to shore power, when I am I use the electric heater fireplace keeps the whole coach toasty. But off-grid, I dont like to use electric space heaters, ceramic, or propane buddy heater inside at night.
.
I am looking at a Webasto (Gas) heater install someday that is mounted in the bedroom to solve the problem, but again expensive and takes some planning. I think it would fit nicely under the dresser area. plenty of room for vent. and would also heat the coach when it's cold.

I need a short term solution which will probably be more blankets

check where that duct attaches at the floor. They run ducts under the floor and then use a bulkead type fitting to connect the flex and don't seal it. the one the feeds our bedroom leaks like a sieve where it passes through the floor. I don't mind as we don't like much heat in the bedroom at night, get enough from the main living area and we set our heat to 55 at night.

If your camped where you have " Pedestal supplied power...spend a few buck s for 1500 watt " milk house " electric heaters....put em on the 750 setting and you will have safe " Quiet Heat all night....just remember to unplug when you turn on the coffee maker in the mornin or you pop a ocd ( over current device : fuse or breaker ) juice in minnesoda
