HELP! Bedslide:(
1 week old 2015 28DS!!!!! (first owner, obviously warranty)
Still prepping for maiden voyage. Rear slide comes in but not out. Ratcheting sound, no movement. Have non refundable reservations for Friday the 25th in exactly 3 weeks from now.
I don't see anything wrong at the hardware? See pics...
I refuse to go back to where I purchased, CW. (it is far, and they don't no much about camping gear in general) Rather have FR send me the stuff so I can fix myself. Thoughts?
Also, Can I manually take the slide out, so we can sleep in it in 3 weeks from now, if not resolved by then?
BTW, this does not affect my love for my new RV!

Your gearbox has a broken tooth and needs replaced. It happened to us. We endured a couple weeks on the road with the slider in. I watched our mobile repairman fix it in 2-3 hours. The hardest part seemed to be adjusting the cables after replacing the gearbox. Beware I had one RV dealer tell me that the motor and gear come in one unit. Not true. If you are in time constraint you might want to deal directly with the slide manufacturer and not Forest River.

X2. Never saw/observed what type systems you big rig owners have on those slides.
Looks like something that supports the Brooklyn Bridge. No wonder there are so many posts about problems.

When we called Forest River over the same issue, the warranty representative advised us to ask the campground host for the name of a mobile RV service or alternatively we could look ahead and schedule an appointment at an RV service establishment along our route. Forest River said they would send the parts needed (I can't remember if it was overnight or two days) to the location we selected (at our current campground or somewhere else along our route). We would then pay for the repairs and parts, and Forest River would reimburse us. Really can't ask for much better service than that! The rep also told us how to use the tool provided in all FR3s to move the slides in and out using a drill so that we could continue our trip moving the slide in and out manually. Suggest you call Forest River and ask for the warranty rep for FR3s. There is one for the east side of the country and one for the west side. P.S. We didn't let this spoil our trip. There is also a great thread on this that goes into much detail (with pictures) which might help. I will look it up and provide in the following post. We too suffered through some early problems with our FR3 - but once we got past these, it has been a pleasure - we love our FR3.

The drill does not work if you have a broken gear tooth.

Is it safe/ok to push out manually, and retract with the motor after a weekend camping?

On mine the small shaft between the motor and gear box broke. If that's the case depending on size you can use either 1/8 or 3/16 key stock and make a new shaft. Remove the motor to check.

I decided not to chance it would not go in. Pushing it in is easier than pushing it out. Again if you have a broken gear the motor or drill will not move it in or out.

***UPDATE***
***UPDATE***
Bryan at FR3 was VERY quick to apologize for any inconvenience and to ship the new gearbox! (2016 model R25076)
Will (have) install this week before maiden voyage!
Love Forest River.

So a mobile repair shop came within a few days and installed the new gearbox within 2 hours. I was able to go on the maiden voyage no problem. The new gearbox works very smooth and has a 'better feel' bringing in and out the slide.
UPS picked up the broken part and FR will reimburse.
In the pictures you can see that not the cogs (teeth) were stripped, but the raised edge inside the box that keeps the cogwheel in place broke, which misaligned that cogwheel... The 2016 gearbox model should be of better quality...

Noise
On a similar note, is it normal for the slide/mechanism to squeal and sqwak when going in or out?

I think you have the norco BAL accuslide system on the FR3. If so here is the link to the manual.
http://norcoind.com/bal/downloads/ac...ice-manual.pdf
It states squeaking is due to the cables being too tight. My Georgetown did it when new and also had a loud clunk just before the slide was all the way in. My repair shop adjusted them and no more issues the last 12 months or so. Hope this helps.
