I just added a 30 amp plug to the side of our house where we park the Beasty. Ran it off a 30 amp circuit breaker at the main circuit box.

By all means DO NOT LICK THE CABLE, Your house power supply center provides quite a bit more than 30 amp, more like 125 amps up to 250 amps. You will need to have a 30 amp breaker installed in your breaker box for the RV circuit and then run your romex cable to your selected location for the plug. If you are not positive you can do this type electrical get an electrician (very dangerous if you don't know what you are doing), also some cities require a building permit to do this and most likely the permit will call for a certified electrician to do the work (with proof at inspection time).

You either have a 100 amp service to your house or 200 amp service. Even with a 100 amp you can do it but you will need an electrical audit with a 100 amp service. Have no idea what is in your panel or what it is supplying. If you have a 100 amp panel more then likely your going to have increase your panel to 200amp about 500.00 bucks to do by a electrician. You then would most likely have to call the electrical company and have a new drop made to the new panel and conduit size going up to the line where they will connect.

Ditto on the box....

I had a spot in my box for an electric range, but we went natural gas instead. I ordered a multi box 50/30/20 outlets so I can run the 30 amp now and 50 when the Allegro Red hits the budget purchase line....

Pleas note that not all 30 amp outlets are the same. My welder is 30 amps but NOT compatible witht the coach!! An electrican is by far your best bet..

Never thought of licking the cables...

Most house have capabilities to add 30 amp to your fuse box. I'd have an electrician due the work depending how long of a run you have to make to get to the camper. I was lucky had very short run. So cost was cheap. Later RJD

The outlets that we have in our garage are all on a 20 amp circuit breaker, which is what we use to run the AC and keep the batteries topped off. If you have access to something similar, just pick up a 30 amp to 20 amp converter and your good to go. Won't be able to run AC and microwave or whatnot, but it works to chill the fridge before you leave.

I am in the process of doing this now. First ran a cable (4 no.6 cond w/gnd) from my service panel in the house via a double 50 breaker to a switchable subpanel on the back wall of the carport.Tomorrow I will start running the 1" pipe to the se corner of the carport where it will terminate in a camper servicebox like you see on pedistals, This particular box has a long and colorful history with our family. It was th box that was on our site in indian river at Jan's Campground on the little steurgeon river for 20 yrs. When she sold the cam she told us to help ourselves to any memorabelia. It has finally come home! Tomorrow I will get the pipe up and boxes mounted, maybe with some pictures!

edit) This box will have 1) 20a duplex
1) 30a 3 prong camper outlet
1 ) 50a 4 prong camper outlet
1 ) 50a 220v welder outlet

I had a connecut rv 50 amp service put outside my garage. It's nice because it also has 30 and 15 amp recepticals for a 110 volt plug in where there wasn't any.

We did the same as you. Nice to have for the hotter days for the AC to operate.

Try $1200.00 to $1500.00 for a 200amp service upgrade here in California.

Luckily I already had 200 amp into the house. $175 for the c-box, $250 for the 25 feet of conduit (this was a couple years ago before 8/4 was priced outrageous).

I don't have a large enough box to add 30 amp service plug. I do have a 20 amp GFI on the front of my house though. My dealer had given me a 30 amp trailer adapter plug to the 20 amp plug. That is what I use and don't have any problems. I run the AC all the time with out any issues.

No, I lie. Found I can't run the microwave and AC at the same time. I can run the coffee pot with the AC though, go figure.
