How to Keep Drawer from Coming Out

All 2020 FR3 30DS owners should have this same problem and I wonder what your solution is…

The drawer in the kitchen that has a counter built in, slides out whenever you turn right since the latch is used to connect to the counter extender. What method are you using to keep the drawer in while traveling?

I bought some magnets with adhesive on the back to see if that works on my next trip.

Try a baby drawer lock. These are simple and can be purchased anywhere. I had some in my first 5er since the drawers on that unit would not stay closed when traveling. We would simply pull the drawer open a little and push down on the latch to let it pass the catch that is mounted to the top of the face frame. These work great and are inexpensive to purchase.

We thought of that too, but in this case it won't work because the counter extension slides out to the top of the drawer. As a result, the only way to secure the drawer is from inside the drawer. That's why we think the magnets will work.

I'll report back when we install them. Still, I wondered what others have done.

At a rally this year, I saw a solution that I will probably use. Same issue - need to keep the drawer completely closed.

Solution was to take a couple of small hardware eye bolts. Screw one into the side of the drawer face the other into the cabinet such that when the drawer is closed, they line up. Then drop a nail or golf tee thru the two holes. Simple and inexpensive solution. If you soak the eye bolts in vinegar for a few hours, they should turn black and will be almost invisible.

Interesting solution. Thanks! I was looking for something that didn't permanently alter the materials. I'll see if the magnets do the trick and report back as an alternative method.

Drawer Locks

Your first person did what I did, Our heavy pots and pans drawer always opened when we traveled. Most hardware stores carry several types of "baby locks" that make it difficult for little kids, but no problem for adults. Have used them on 2 trailers now. They work great!

Magnets

I made drawers for under the 2 beds in our 5'er. They would open on every curve. I used magnets to keep them closed. Really worked well.
You could still open them easily but stayed closed on the curves.

I stapled Velcro to the back of a drawer and the mating part of the Velcro to cabinet behind the drawer. Opens easy with a little tug and stays closed while driving.

You could install a set of slides like the ones in the link below. They work great.

We have the same problems with our drawers in the kitchen not staying closed. We added thin 20lb magnets to keep em closed whole driving while keeping functionality. Total cost $9

If you look at the latch on the door (not really a latch but for lack of a better word) you will see how one side pushes into other side. The bayonet side on the door side pushes into two rubber rollers on the cabinet slide. I just take a screwdriver and spread the bayonet side apart a bit. It needs to be spread apart occasionally.

I have installed additional catches on the bottom drawer under stove, the same type.

As for the useless cutting board arrangement I just disconnected the pull out feature and now when it is needed I just reach under with finger and pull it out manually.

My son had a box of them from an installation he did. I just used one magnet on one side with the sticky tape. The magnet is very strong. I think you can get them at most hardware stores and Lowes.

My FR3 25DS had the same problem.
When making left turns, the drawer under the pantry would slide open.

I installed a pair of these latches and cured the problem.

Solution could also be applied to doors.
Another quick Amazon fix!

Drawer opening

I use a 3/4” piece of PVC that goes through the two bottom drawer handles and extend up to the top drawer. So far it works well and we just pull it up and out when we stop and lay it along the back of the stove. I like the magnet idea.
