Perplexed....Battery Disconnect

2022 FR3 34DS Battery disconnect....disconnected itself !!! We are parked for the summer, and the last time I ran the generator the house batteries were extremely low and the generator would barely turn over let alone start. I found the battery disconnect in the disconnected position. No big deal I thought...switch must have been pushed by DW accidently. Subsequently, I now regularly check and have found the batteries disconnected numerous times. Today I heard the "thump" from the disconnect relay and discovered that once again the batteries were disconnected. Somehow the relay (latching relay) must be getting the signal to disconnect, or a defective relay.....any ideas???

Send a message via ICQ to Barry Hughes
I would suggest reaching out to our warranty service department. They could review to see if there have been similar issues or situations and better be able to point you in the right direction. 574-206-7600 have your vin# handy.

Georgetown's have experienced this identical issue and it apparently was caused by the new BCC (battery control center) with the associated BIM (battery isolation manager). I think the resolution was a new BCC.

Update: Spoke with Nick at FR. Was told that hearing the battery disconnect cycling was normal operation. I was under the impression that once the battery was connected, it would stay that way....and a trickle charge would keep the domestic batteries at full charge. Nick said the BCC (BIM) monitors the state of charge and disconnects (via relay) when fully charged. When batteries fall below a certain level....they are reconnected (via relay) until fully charged again. Nick recommended load testing the batteries....which I did and found them to be good.....however, I did find some corrosion (was not apparrent until I disconnected batteries) which I cleaned. Now I will continue to observe and report any changes.

Thanks for the update. I look forward to hearing another update, because I'm always suspicious when the manufacturer/dealer says "Oh, that weird behavior is normal".

Somethings not right. The charging is programmed for the interconnect solenoid (coach/chassis combined charging) but the coach batteries do not disconnect.
