Recall found on NHTSA

Manufacturer: Forest River, Inc.
SUMMARY:
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2015 Georgetown GT335, FR3 FR30, Pursuit 31BD, and 29SB, and 2016 Cardinal CAF3825FL and Tracer TRT270AIR and TRT3200BHT fifth wheel and travel trailers. In the affected vehicles, the screws that attach the expanding room to the sliding mechanism cable may fail allowing the room to extend unintentionally while the vehicle is in motion.
CONSEQUENCE:
If the room extends while vehicle is in motion, there is an increased risk of a crash.
REMEDY:
Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will replace the slide room mechanism cable attaching screws, free of charge. The recall began on May 5, 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-642-0437. Forest River's number for this recall is 51-0331201501.
NOTES:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to Home | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

I bought my FR3 30DS in March of 2016 and it says the MH is a 2016 and the chassis is a 2015 Ford F53. So from your post I should be ok, but I am going to call Forest River tomorrow anyway. Better safe than sorry!

Run your VIN on the NHTSA site.

Normally that would work however your vin is for the Ford F-53 chassis and since this is not a Ford recall I'm pretty sure you will draw a blank.

Forest River also has a VIN. Look on your purchase agreement. It'll be listed there.

I emailed Forest River about the recall, with the VIN number which is listed on my purchase agreement (the same VIN number as on all my documents) and was told to contact Ford. Why would Ford have anything to do with a recall on the coach room slides?

Don't know who you emailed jimcarter but whoever it was obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. You're right, a slide problem is not a Ford problem.

Slide Screw Replacement

We have a 2013 GT 335 with the Accuslide cable slide mechanism. We attended the 2015 FROG International Rally. The factory service teams from FR and Norcold (owner of Accuslide) replaced all the original screws with bigger and heavier screws that attach the cable bracket to the slide. The teams did a great job. Can't imagine a dealer doing this. The Accuslide team retightened the cables back to spec (not a simple task if you don't know what you are doing) and FR team removed and reattached the fascia. Just wanted to point out our model year vs what is indicated on recall.

How'd you do that?

Seriously, my Pursuit 31BD that I bought in September is a 2016 model year (built on a 2015 Ford chassis which is not particularly relevent) so I'm assuming (hoping?) I'm unaffected by this recall.

I just read the info on the NHTSA website. A total of 35 vehicles - that's for all models involved, is the entire population of this problem. The Safety Recall Report 15V-203 has all the detail. The screws in question are supposed to be case hardened, but ended up being "hardened clear through". the build dates are from Mar 5 thru Mar 23, 2015. As of Oct. 15, 8 of the 35 have been fixed.

NHTSA Recall

Regardless of what year or model, if you have the cable slide system (Accuslide) check the screws that attach the standoff brackets to the slide. If any of the screw heads have popped off you have a problem. About half of mine on the bedroom slide had popped off. The LR slide was OK but they were all replaced.

Kevin Stratton, Warranty Manager for Georgetown / FR3. did get back to me with further info, that my 2016 FR3 30DS is not part of the recall at this time. the first email was inaccurate due to some confusion about my info.
That was fast response by Kevin, makes me feel better about my decision to purchase from Forest River.

THIS IS NOT A FOREST RIVER RECALL, it is a recall from the slide manufacutor! So yes it will go by the company that installed their system, but not FR issue!

Well the NHTSA lists it as a Forest River recall. And the letter explaining the recall details is from Forest River. The bolts are bad, but Forest River sold the final product. That is how it works.

Here's the long website link I found today:

2015 FR3 FR30 | Safercar | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

The document RCLRPT-15V203-2721.doc lists it as a FR recall (probably within the 1 year warranty). I've attached a copy. As stated above, a very limited number of vehicles involved - 35.

Recalls are recalls, warranty status doesn't matter.
