Recliner footrest wouldn’t stay up

The Mastercraft recliners that came with our motorhome hold up my wife’s legs, but not mine. In my case, the length of my legs cause the footrest to lower until my heels hit the ground.

I replaced the single spring powering the mechanism with two 6.25” long-neck springs on each side (a total of four) and now I’m a happy camper.

But why, should YOU have to change springs on your own to remedy the issue? I put this on my list for repair because I have the same issue with the recliners and I’m only 5’8” tall.

Because:
  • it cost me less to do myself than the gas I would have consumed bringing it in for repair.
  • it was a fix that took trial-and-error to complete.
  • I’m happy.
