We had ours replaced and the installer used a Panasonic. Not convection though.

I replaced the Samsung in my Mirada. The Samsung would turn on by itself.

It won't do MACH 2, but I can get a sandwich and take a pee.

I bought and installed a Cuisinart counter top unit. I don't do anything the easy way, when I can make it complicated. It is deeper so I had to build a face frame and added a plywood bottom. I also lined the space with metal and added a vent above the unit.

This is an old photo when I first added it.

No, it is vented out the top of the overhead cabinet. When baking, there is some heat coming out but not that bad. Heat on the ceiling is quickly removed by Maxxair fans. I also added air inlet / vent underneath at the exhaust fan. To mount the MW, I fashioned sheet metal and attached to the bottom of the unit (3M double sided tape) You might be able to see, but the plate sticks out the front with a 90 deg bend down and screws hold it tight. I like the Cuisinart but one that doesn't require cabinet work would be what I would do now.

No, you set the vent fan direction before install. Real simple, 2 or 4 screws, lift it out and reset it in the direction you want air to vent. Mine came to vent out the front and I reset it to vent out the back and out the side vent of my RV
