There is special spray paint, good for 2000 deg. Bought some from auto parts store yesterday.

Talked to a nice part Man there. He found me two Ford Dealers in Indian that still had some. I bought mine at Jordan Ford, shout out to Ryan, made order easy. I just looked up other Ford Dealer that had one, Eby Ford Indiana. Had it shipped to my house and brought it to Suburban Ford of Waterford, MI , Shout out to Parker. For working with me to get it installed. Motorhome is in driveway tonight. Hope this helps someone else find one. No telling how long back order will last. There was 7 waiting at Suburban Ford.
I'm the guy that made the 1,600 mile round trip to get mine so I could make a special family gathering in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately I'm not even comfortable having mine in the driveway because of how quick they can have one of these cut off. I moved mine fro covered storage to enclosed storage with a locked door. I also plan on installing some devices to protect the cat in the driveway. Nothing is fool proof but I feel better with it behind a locked door. As for painting or etching, I'm on the fence. Maybe it would prove where it came from if they were caught. Its a dead giveaway if one is found in a scrap yard cut. No legitimate shop is going to cut one off with a saw. Cameras, fences, gates mean squat. Most storage contracts have a clause that protects the facility from liability for these things. I feel for those that have been a victim as I was and I suggest that if you haven't been a victim yet do something to protect your stuff.

Highly unlikely, would cost a pretty penny for a storage place that is willing to take such liabilities as their operating costs would end up quite high between security and insurance.

It's like putting your stuff in a storage unit, the company has no liability for your stuff.

It gets hot.

What happens to your home barbecue when it gets hot, or a painted engine, or painted brake calipers?

Not a thing to be concerned about.

I had the mindset not to protect my Cat's. Let insurance cover it. Then my Cat's were stolen. Cat's on back order. Miss trips. Now looking for ways to protect my stuff.

Yeah, wow. Well, at least the truck owner doesn't need to sleep in his truck anymore...

Hot catalytic converters have been know to start grass fires. I would hate to see you lose your RV over a burning (painted) converter.

Even if a thief is caught, nothing will happen to them except a slap on the wrist.

You could use header paint...good for up to 1500 degrees...

On another note, I had my trailer at a local RV repair place and was unable to pick it up the day they called to say it was ready. I let them know, and they neglected to put it back in the yard. When I went to pick it up the next day, the owner took me to my trailer and said "uhhh, didn't you have batteries...?" (Why, yes, yes I did...") Expensive mistake for the owner and with no hesitation said he installed brand two new Interstate Deep Cycles with a huge apology. It's gonna get worse out there....

Sorry to hear this is happening. I recently retired from the Facilities dept of a local municipality and we had to add security to deter these thieves from accessing our fleet vehicles. When it snows and the public wants plows on the road, they aren’t much good without the cat!

For my personal vehicle I wouldn’t spend much more on deterrents than the cost of my insurance deductible.

When you reinstall your Catalytic Converter consider installing a CatClamp theft deterrent device I've used hundreds of them and in most cases, they will leave yours and go on to an easier target. But nothing is fool-proof if they have the time.

I agree with your logic to a point. But other factors go into the decision:
  • Aggravation of dealing with the repair.
  • Lost usage while waiting for the repair, possibly including the cancelation of trips and the loss of reservation deposits.
  • Potential hike in next year’s insurance.
Personally, I’m on the fence whether to add a theft delaying device. I will be more likely to install one if I have to wait a long time for replacement part to arrive.

We have inside storage but still installed a remote alarm that notifies our cell of any intrusion.

Our storage lot is inside of a large store-your-stuff facility. You need a gate code to enter the premises, then a different gate code to get into the RV area. They have high def video of someone in a black hoodie with a baseball cap walking off with a dozen cats.
I installed a CatStrap after my stolen cat was replaced hoping to prevent missed trips during the too short summer season here in Michigan.

Got any pictures of the install? I'm thinking of putting one on my 2016 3010.

If he wasn’t a convicted felon that wasn’t supposed to be in possession of a firearm and if he didn’t drag him to a field.

I stole this idea from someone else. Basically, it's 10' of 1/8" SS cable with swaged loop ends. I wrapped it around the catalytic converter and secured the ends together with a carabiner. Then I placed a highly sensitive motion detecting alarm on the cable. It can be armed or disarmed remotely. If you touch the cable or wiggle the exhaust pipe the alarm will sound. Spent about $10 for the cable and parts, the carabiner I had and the alarm was about $18 from Amazon. It's a bike alarm

Check out post#11 in this thread. I attached a PDF of how I installed a CatStrap on our F-53 chassis.

Fantastic write up on your install! I am unsure of the difference between an F 53 and an E 450?
