Tire Pressure Question

Hi All,
I finally got my mh to a truck scale. The mh was fully loaded with people, pets, gear, food, gas, propane, and fresh water. Gray and Black were empty. I also had my tow car. I was able to weigh the front axle, the whole RV (allowing me to calculate the rear axle) and then the RV with the car. I was not able to do 4-corner weighing due to obstructions on either side of the scale.

For the front axle, I have a weight of 3580/tire. For the rear axle, I have a weight of 3384/tire. According to the manufacturer’s tire pressure chart, a tire pressure of 80 PSI should do the trick for all six tires. But they also say to add 5-10 PSI as a safety margin, bringing me up to 85 or 90 PSI.

Since, I wasn’t able to do 4-corner weighing, I’m thinking I should go with the 90PSI in case there is some sort of load difference from left to right. Do you agree that 90 PSI should be correct or am I missing something?
Thanks,
Cliff

i'm not the expert. there will be others along. we do not have a motorhome. we have a dually pickup and i 5th wheel.

i have two questions.

what is the max inflation on the tires you have?

on our dually pickup the rear dual tires are inflated to a different pressure than the single front tires. is this the same on your motor home or do you use the same inflation pressure on all 6 tires?

BTW: we have family in valley springs and we stay at the jackson rancheria when we go over to visit. it's a real nice park!

There is definitely a side to side load difference and it can be significant. I did individual tire weights for my fifth wheel and saw a difference of 500 lbs. between the lightest loaded wheel and the heaviest. I know it's not entirely the same situation you're in, but the reality is there- these beasts are very unbalanced.

If it were me (and I'll be doing this soon now that we're in a class A), I'd plan for a 20-25% difference side to side.

We are almost neighbors! :-) The Jackson Rancheria has beautiful park. The free shuttle service to the casino is a nice touch, also. It's a great place to visit Spring & Fall. In the summer, I would recommend 49er Village in Plymouth because their tree canopy helps you keep the RV cooler.

As to my tires:
1) Max is 110 PSI, whether single or dual.
2) Yes, the tire chart shows different inflation levels depending on whether it is for single tires (front) or dual (rear). Given the loading of my mh, the range of 80-90 was good for both front and rear.
3) The manufacturer's sticker recommends 92 PSI for both front and back.

If you have the same load range tires as that specified on the manufacturer's sticker than I fail to see a legitimate reason to not inflate to the pressure specified by the manufacturer.

I’m bored? ;-)
My understanding from reading the IRV2 forum over the years is that if you can safely lower the tire pressure, then you can improve the ride and the handling of the motorhome.
