Windshield shade

hi all,

Just tried to lower windshield shade and it will only move an inch or so in either direction.

Any ideas on a solution would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Is your key in the on position or do you have the engine running? Key off will give proper lowering/raising. There is a setting in the upper drivers side of the shade that allows the shade to only move if key on/engine running. You'll find this info in your owners manual for the front shade. Confused? I know I was. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.

The key is not in the ignition at all.

I did find a wire with a push button switch on the top of the shade on the drivers' side.

I am guessing it should not be just hanging. I did travel some rough parts of I 95 today so it may have been jarred loose. I do not know where it should be placed.

If I push the button and press the shade switch the shade will move occasionally but not consistently.

I did not receive any documentation on the front shade.

Thanks again for anymore info.

Warranty replacement.

I had mine replaced under warranty for the same symptoms. The shade was hung incorrectly and rubbed through the learning switch wires grounding them out. It did exactly what youre describing before it stopped working entirely.

That is the re-program (learning) switch (should have 2 wires connected to it). It usually is just taped to the roller in the upper left corner. The manual explains how to re-program using that little push button switch. Your shade may just need programming again. MCD is the manufacturer and should be able to google for instructions to program the shade.

Search this as it is the manual that will help you reset it. It took me a few tries to get it right.

Can not figure out why the darn thing does this, but it does and this will fix it.

Here is what mine looks like. I'm glad you posted this. It made me look and see. My switch wire is draped up over a vinyl side piece foe the windshield. I can see how that wire can easily be broken. Also after taking these photos I discovered
1 that Phillips head screw backed off
2 that bolt for the bunk backed off. I suspect that is a self tapping.

Btw. Only 1500 miles! So I'm glad I'm handy because there's always gong to be something else to fix.
