AC noise level too high

Anyone have any good ideas on how to reduce the noise level on the ACs in the Legacy?
It is so loud that it becomes hard to even talk in the couch if it is running even at low speed.
I read some article about doing so but the mod did not work so good.

I'll agree that RV air conditioners are something you may have to adjust to, but the reality is that we demand cold air, and therefore we have to deal with the sounds that come with it - if you think about it, the unit is right above your head, and the main return/outlet is also right above your head, and especially if you have two or three units on the roof...there's little way to get 'away' from them.

Some have installed further insulation in the main outlets, with some success, but I'm not sure that there will ever be a way to make these units 'quiet', at least not much more than they already 'are'...

When we are in the living room area, whether watching tv, or eating a meal, we actually only use the REAR air conditioner, shutting off it's main outlet, OPENING the living area Main Outlet, and shutting off many of the ceiling outlets near the rear of the coach in order to put more of the air out into the living area...making for a rather nice and quieter time. We also use floor fans to move the air, which is a large part of keeping any space cool.
When we are in the bedroom at bedtime, watching tv, we do the opposite ... we've grown accustomed to understand that simply turning 'on' the air condtioner(s) is not the only part of the equation.

And, YES, it is HOT!!!! almost everywhere right now - we had a day last week where the high was in the low 80s, and we 'thought' that the weather had turned and we were moving into more of a temperate time....oh no!!! This week has Wednesday at 94!!

That is basically what we have been doing but in Texas with the temp in the low 100's only one unit wont cut it.

I wonder if there is a way to put a mini-split and duct the cold air into the furnace ducts from the cargo bay. and hang the outside unit in the back of the bus.

does the wackoproduct work? i watched the install video, and they block the air dump and then put a cover over the AC that reroutes the air across the blocked air dump and into the intake. Interesting theory.

How much does this reduce the noise level and do you think it increases the efficiency/flow through the central ducting?

Wish they had a average DB reduction on their site.

It works, you no longer have the air dump and all of the air goes through the ductwork you have. Much quieter!

They do have some DB comparisons on their Facebook page from a customer.
It is NOT a video, just photos so take it for what that's worth.

I did see it demonstrated at a show and their was some noise level reduction but in the case of those with non ducted INTAKE using a Coleman Mach unit, you lose the quick dump feature.

The only issues I have with this are... price and elimination of dump feature.

I have said this I think... In residential a/c insulating the return air gets rid of a LOT of noise.

Honestly I can deal with noise to be cool...

This is one of the reason we purchased our Cedar Creek model, there is no air dump from either A/C. Just ducted A/C lines in the celling through out the trailer. We can talk and listen to a TV when the A/C is operating. There is some noise but not objectional like a A/C that dumps into the room. When we sleep at night I shut off the front A/C and just run the rear A/C on a continuous low speed fan. Very quiet we do not even hear our A/C operating at night in the front bedroom.

Took some DB readings in our legacy at both the front and bedroom areas, ducted reading and air dump reading.

Seated On the sofa ac directly overhead where we would watch tv
Db with fan on low was 64/65 dB
Med fan was 66
Hi fan was 68/69
Air dump open was 71-73 dB

Bedroom readings were taken laying on bed and all values were the same.

If this gizmo does what it says and reduces 5-10db and doesn’t reduce flow, that is pretty amazing and will likely be ordering 2.

It had some links in it that needed to be researched as some set our spam filters bells off. It's about to be put back in play. No worries.

We have anti-spam stuff that this happens to sometimes when members put links in their posts. It then requires us to manually check the link and also to make sure it's not a spammer trying to mine the membership here. When the links set the alarms off (which multiple instances of the same link can do), then the site team has to determine if either of these guidelines is being run afoul of. It does sometimes take a bit to determine and the thread/posts/links may not be visible during the process.
