Fresh water tank?

Do you all store for winter with fresh tank filled or as empty as possible? If full do you add any extra additives?

We keep ours in heated indoor storage.

Mine sits outside over the winter. I empty it as much water as I can so the drain line will stay free of water over the winter. If it is in a heated area all winter I would drain it but not be too worried about where residual water might settle. I would still disinfect everything when you plan to start using it next spring.

I would store it empty. Nothing to grow in there. Tell ya what... take a pitcher of tap water, cover it and leave it on your counter for a few months, don't move it, touch it, nothing.

After 3 months take the lid off and have a smell. I guarantee you it will smell like fish tank.

I have a counter top water filter system and after going away for 1 month, I went to get some water out of it, and it smelled foul. The lid and reservoir had mold growing on it.

The filtered water appeared fine. I did however get rid of it.

The water I used was tap water from some of the cleanest city water in North America. So we've been told. :P

You never know what kind of microbial bugs/parasites are living in your water supply and how the plastics of the tank leech into the water.

Mine is also inside with heat....pumped one gallon of bleach into the tank to keep it clean....I have maybe 20 gallons in the system right now....just flushed out the black and grey tanks last night into the floor drains....again filled the black tank with bleach...let it sit and drained out...

We use our rig year round, however, if it sits more than 3 or 4 weeks, I sanitize the fresh water system with a light bleach solution just to minimize the possible bugs.

Draining and Bleach solution question

Hello,

Can someone please tell me where to find the fresh water tank drain on my 340BH?

Also, how are you getting the bleach solution into the fresh water tank?

Thanks in advance!

I would think the drain would be on the right side wet bay bottom forward on the tank. Small plastic valve.

I just pour the bleach in via the same hose I use to fill the tank.

I'm sorry if this seems like a silly question .. so you just pour the bleach solution into a piece of hose attached to the water intake?

I just pour 1/4 cup bleach per 15 gallons of water into the FW hose.

Connect to a faucet and fill the FW tank.

Captnrick3,

I have attached pictures of the two bays on either side of the FW tank. Which one of these valves? I've tried all but none of them seem to drain.

Hello.

I attached a short hose to my water intake and poured a cup of water in to test. It just stayed in the hose and overflowed when I added more water. I'm sorry if this questionis elementary ... I am fairly new to all of this. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks so much for your help.

I would dilute it first in a gallon of water if possible, will make for a better solution and 100% bleach could damage the valves in your pump if it should pass through. Just my thoughts.

Top picture, the bottom right valve is the drain. Looks exactly like mine. Should drain.

Leave the water heater bypassed

Use a full size water hose, make sure it is drained.

Connect the end to the tank fill side, pour the bleach in the hose.

Now connect to the faucet and turn the water on till your tank is full.

The water will push the bleach into the tank.

At this point I let it sit overnight to sanitize the tank, in the AM use the water pump to run the solution thru the water lines, be sure to drain and flush both hot and cold lines including the outside shower and low points.

My wet bay was nice clean and uncluttered like that once but I added an R.O. a few months back so we don't have to fiddle with bottled water. That took care of the neat bay.

When you say leave the water heater bypassed, do you simply mean don't turn it on?

How often do you sanitize. Sometimes we go a few months between trips. Should I be draining all of the fresh water between trips if its been a couple of months?

Thanks so much for your help. Really appreciate it.
