Shore Power Issue

Had a little issue with shore power to coach earlier in the trip. Plugged in to shore power on 2nd night of trip and coach didn't power up and wouldn't charge the batteries and the batteries wouldn't hold a charge. Thought it might be the transfer switch but it was only a year and a half old since a new upgraded switch was installed. Tried different things like a point to point check etc. Finallly it hit me that the only thing I hadn't tried was plugging the owner cord in without the surge protector, did it and Voila, power!! Thinking back we heard a pop during a severe thunder storm on the first night, the surge protector did it's job, all of the lights on the surge protector were green and there was nothing to indicate that it was inoperative. Maybe this will save someone else some time, infusion and frustration.

Sounds like your surge protector saved some electronics and appliances! Strange why there was nothing indicating it was inoperable, but it did its job.

in 110,000 miles in our sister Palazzo, we've never used any 'protective' device, and have seen a LOT of 'lightning' and other 'things' and have never had any issue - hearing a 'pop' means nothing. Owners of 'surge protectors' are always touting how it has 'saved' them from this or that situation, but that's just assumptions and supposition. The manufacturers love for you to spread the rumors, though. There is nothing concrete to prove that a surge protector, just by having one, has anything to do with 'saving' your RV from some type of electrical or weather event, especially just because someone 'thinks' it did. Those camping right next to you, who don't have a surge protector, didn't have any issues either.

and you happen to know the people the OP was parked next to, and have been able to verify that claim? if not, how is that any different than saying the surge protector did its job????
