Shurflo water pump

My SHURflo freshwater pump, 4048-153-E75, runs for about 3 min when I switch it on after disconnecting from city water. After that, it works great. No leaks inside or on the ground and it doesn’t cycle on by itself indicating a leak in pressure in the system. Is this a pressure switch failing or maybe something else?

reading your post I don't see what the problem is its sounds like it is working as it should. You may want to explain what the problem is.

Well, only problem is this is a new development. Up until now, when I switched on the pump, it ran for only a couple of seconds. While the pump is currently doing the job it’s supposed too, if the pressure switch is failing, I’d prefer to replace the $16 part at my convenience rather than having a complete failure while traveling.

I have had longer than expected runtime (first time) when there is air in the lines.

I noticed a similar issue recently on my 2018 340BH. Turned out to be my ice maker was on. When I turned on the pump it ran for a while to fill up the tray. Does it happen as soon as you disconnect from city water? If so that probably isn’t your issue.

I doubt the amount of time running is the pressure switch and more then likely the pump getting tired (wearing out) If it were the pressure switch running longer would mean developing more pressure not less. how is the flow from the pump? the pressure switch is internal to the pump

No air in the lines as it happens when I’m switching over from city water to tank when disconnecting from a campsite.

The pressure switch is external.

Yes, happens when I am ready to break camp. I turn on the water pump and shut off the city water. For the first three years, the pump would run for three, maybe five seconds. All of a sudden, it’s three minutes or more. This is the only time it does this. While running off tank water, it works normal and shuts off almost immediately after turning off the faucet. Nothing has changed with the coach plumbing.

I’m thinking that the pressure switch may be sticking and not shutting down the pump at 55 psi. Think I’ll call the manufacturer and see what they suggest. Is Shurflo owned by Lippert Components yet? Lol

Sounds to me like the internal by pass in the pump (which is supposed to make it cycle less) has gotten weak or out of adjustment somehow. Ours has done that from time to time and then gets over it. I'm considering just changing the pump before we get caught in a bad place since we dry camp from time to time.

I had to replace my water pump yesterday. It ran, made all the normal sounds, but did not pump water. Of course they never put the water pump in a easy to reach location. This 75 year old body did not like climbing up into the storage bay for the replacement, but it had to be done. I don’t remember why, but I had a new one in the box. Not something one normally carries along, but glad I had it.
