Back Up camera wiring

Just purchased a new Alpha Wolf 23RD-L today.

The dealer didn't set up the backup camera and I'm having some issues.

It's a Driven DRWC4.3 and I can't get the display to connect with the camera.

At this point I'm thinking the camera doesn't have any power.

Anyone familiar with how they are normally wired? Aux trailer wire?
Reverse wire?
Trailer battery?

Is there a switch I'm missing?

Thanks in advance.

Mine is hooked up to the clearance/running lights. My 7-pin has to be hooked up and the tow vehicle has to be running.

The camera auto connects when the tow vehicle lights are set to Park or Manual On.

If it doesn't connect, Long press the bottom button, and the screen will show a funky syncing image.

Wait a good two minutes with the lights on and it will reconnect.

That's my experience, anyway.

Turn on the running lights.

Mine came pre-wired from the factory or aka Forest River. Installed a Furrion system and to run the TT has to be connected to the 7-pin and turn on lights and then the camera display modules unit plugged in obviously to the 12-volt inside the tow vehicle and it picks up. On your first time firing it up you will have to pair it. After that, should recognize it every time.

Thanks guys, I did try and connect the 7pin connector to the trailer and my running lights were on, I also tried to connect with he truck in reverse.

I'll do some more digging today....maybe my truck isn't pre-wired for the AUX or reverse light power or something.

Thought maybe the distance between the transmitter and receiver was the issue and took the display to the back of the camper to remove any obstructions from the signal path.....still no dice lol

I'll do some more digging and see what's up and report back, I hope I didn't just get a bum camera system.

You could have. Never rule it out. I would once again unplug the camera from the pre-wire and do over again if my first time.

One thing to do is check voltage to that wiring to the camera off the trailer to make sure it is getting juice. Good luck.

The Driven camera and screen is pretty cheap. If you can't get it going with what we've described here, the odds are high that the camera/monitor are no good.

I'm talking REAL CHEAP! It makes the Furrion cameras look like luxury equipment.

Well for what ever reason, I backed the truck up to the camper this morning.... Tested my voltage to the reverse, running, and AUX pins on my truck. ( all worked as they should)

I plugged the trailer in plugged my display in and started the truck..... Boom..... Camera display came right up.

The only thing I can think happened before, was I powered the display first, when I got no connection, I plugged in the trailer.....and then had to read the paperwork in the manual to find the sync button.

So I think because the display didn't see the camera in a certain length of time it stopped receiving.....then when I powered the camera up and it didn't connect in a preset time, it stopped transmitting.

Anyway, I can confirm, the camera is wired to the parking/running light circuit not the reverse lights (which the camper doesn't have anyhow)

If getting no signal, wiring could be set up backwards. Mine was and had to pull off the light and switch them.

I had the same problem just today, on a new camera installation , I verified the positive wire and ground wire feed to the clearance light, then hooked up the camera to the clearance light. Turned on the running lights, no signal to receiver. Re crimped the scotch locks at the clearance light connection. Camera and receiver OK. Most elect 12 volt faults are from bad grounds.

I am surprised the dealer did not set it up for you to be honest. If bought from them and paid for install, they are or should have so this would not be a issue at delivery.

Mine was installed and paired. In fact, I was expecting to pair it but then when I picked it up and got into the truck after connecting everything was surprised it linked right up.

I am contemplating adding the right and left side cameras in the future possibly but not sure yet. I think the backup is the most needed obviously.

I bought the rig without a BU camera so had to buy a kit and install it myself. Those side cameras are terrible. Most times the Sun, creates a shadow along one side and prevents a good clear view. Usually it seems to be the right side. Maybe I had a terrible cam kit? Operator error? Any way, good luck with it. Safe & Happy travels.
