I doubled the bottom mattress. It’s actually quite cushy now. LOL. As for the top, I cut the metal frame in half and it will fit a crib mattress now against the back wall. So it’s still a BH just not two double beds. And my son can use the upper area for shelves. We can always use more storage. When I go to sell it I’ll pick up a cheap crib mattress. Same size that goes into a toddler bed.

IMHO:

It doesn't matter which way you go; one bunk to two, two bunks to one. The important thing is that it works for you.

If you're worried that changing the bunks will affect resale, sell it now and get something else that already has what you want.

Bottom line: If it's not working for you, changing to something that will work is going to cost you "something," either time/energy or $$. Only you can decide which.

Many of us don't have the time/skill, so we end up spending $$.

Yes, I agree.

I’m handy with a saw. Took many years of wood shop in school and my parents did the rest of the teaching. I’m going to modify. As much as I would love to have the Mountain Fox 5th wheel I can’t justify the 10,000 loss. The first offer was 16,000 less and I told them Hell NO. Haylett RV the local place did better but still not enough. I’ll make due. I could buy a jet ski for the difference

Try a private sale. Many people have reported good resale that way. Cuts out the middleman.
