was just talking about this today. We didn't plan for how much our 14YO grew this past year. May have to do this next year.

Nice Job!

Just so I’ve got this right....

You had factory bunk beds? The upper bunk looked narrower than the bottom, probably just camera angle. Bottom bunk was narrow enough there was a folding table beside it.
You now replaced them with one much wider bed at the height of the bottom of the larger window. No room for a folding table beside, but much wider for one person? No more upper bunk.

What about resale value after this modification? Just curious how this changes it

I like it! good work! looks like it will be easier to access both the top and bottom bunks. Add an access door of some type to get into the space below the bottom bunk.

Didn't buy with the intention of selling it

You did a great job. Looks more manageable and assessable. Resale value won’t decrease at all. I did lots of mods that changed the floor plan and I got my purchase price back when I traded it in.

Although most don’t buy with the intent to sell, all sell eventually, even if they die before a deal is done.

My question stands, how do DIY mods change the value of an RV? Is it the same as cars and real estate? Is it better to keep things stock or modify?

We cut down the top bunk and turned it into a single bed. Left the bottom bunk as a double and added the existing top bunk mattress to it. So much more functional now and the top bunk is used more for storage.

Great idea and thank you for sharing. I could see us doing something like this with the lower bunk and keeping the top bunk as-is.

I went to trade in my 2 year bunkhouse model. Primo condition. Popular floor plan. And they we’re going to give me ONLY 1/3 of what I paid for it. I was purchasing a more expensive model. It makes no difference. I, last weekend, ripped out the top bunk. So now I have a large bottom bed with a toddler bed up top in the back section.

Guess I’m keeping it!!! I’ll not take that kind of loss. I was in all hopes keeping it in excellent stock condition for its resale value and so the next person could take advantage of the BH setup and I could move up to a “couples camper”. So now the Mods are happening. Next to go is the 88” useless dining area and in its place a 2 piece couch with a moveable dining table.
