Castle Rock Tires
Hi:
I just bought a 2017 Forest River Cherokee Wolf Pup, and the trailer came with a set of Castle Rock ST tires. I see the tires have been on the market for a couple years so I'd appreciate it if you could share your experience. I plan to drive from Florida to Montana this summer and don't know whether I should be concerned.
Thanks so much!

I just put Goodyear endurance tires on my wolf pup. Gives me a little peace of mind. Feels much more stable.

We just had a blow out no warning tires are 17 months old as they were new with the RV purchase. $2200 in damages and hoping dont miss trip. 2 other tires are cracking and we no longer feel safe with this brand. We didn't even have 1000miles on the tires. I'd recommend purchasing a different brand. Our old unit had Goodyears that were great. Safe travels!

My tires only had about 600 miles on them. Even at 50psi they looked soft as if they were under inflated. The 2 endurance tires cost me $266 installed at discount tire. Didn't want to spend that much but you can't put a price on the safety of your family and the people driving around you. Hope it helps..!

Replace them! Just had a blowout on our 8 month old, indoor stored fifth wheel. Did 3000 worth of damage.

Ok, now that my eyes have been opened wide about the "wonderful" tires that are on my new Wolf Pup, what aftermarket tires are preferred? I tend to geek out when choosing tires for my other tire using toys, so narrowing down the choices would be nice.
We are getting ready to move west so the first 3-4K miles will be interstate, but after that who knows where we will be camping.

I added a TPMS and have about 10K miles on mine.
The ones that had blowout, were the tires monitored?
I run max pressure and have no concerns at this time.

This last week I replaced the stock tires on my wolf pup with Goodyear Endurance. I increased the load range from C to D and the extra 500 lbs will easy my nerves a bit. The Endurance tires are about 40 percent heavier then the stock tires.
Cost was $240 installed for the pair at our local Goodyear dealer. It would have been $280 but I talked him down $20 a tire by asking nicely.

After reading bad opinions about Castle Rock tires, I replaced the Castle Rock tires with Maxxis 8008's as soon as I took delivery of our Heritage Glen. I've had blowouts on previous trailers doing quite a bit of damage. Not Castle Rock but stock OEM china bombs. Not fun having blowout going down interstate. More tire problems happen during the summer heat.

Commonly Carlisle tires or Goodyear Endurance are purchased to replace OEM tires. There are threads galore that can keep you entertained for weeks.

Any opinions on Vanguard 10 ply tires. It is what my Big-O is recommending to replace the Castle Rock china bombs on my Wolf Pup. 225-75x15 is the size mine uses.
Or it seems like the Goodyear Endurance are the good but expensive way to go. Cost is not my main concern.

My year old Castle Rock tires seem fine. They're marked steel belted radial with a max speed of 75mph which surprised me since most ST I've seen are only rated for 65.
Having said that, when they need replacement, I'll go with something like Maxis which I've always done on my previous campers.

I had 2 Castle Rocks fail before 2000 miles.
Mine were load range D and I don't think they could handle the weight of the trailer. I'm right at the limit of LR D.

I have about 4000 miles on mine since last summer. They hold air but agree how soft they look. I do notice a dent or two in the side walls (Not bubble), so I am concerned these cheap tires need to be replaced. Ill try to get through this season.

You should be frightened if your trailer is wearing Castle Rock tires. This evening I went to fetch my Catalina from the storage facility only to find the spare tire has exploded. The spare tire has never ever touched the ground or had air put into it. My Catalina was purchased new 20 months ago. Whats worse... the 4 tire that are on the ground are also Castle Rock tires.
These Castle Rock ST tires are described on their manufacturer's website as follows.
"The Castle Rock ST is a highly durable Radial Tire, constructed of nylon chords and premium rubber. The Castle Rock is sturdy and resistant against the most unforgiving road conditions. The Castle Rock ST features an aggressive, modern sidewall and a traditional ST tread. The strength and appearance of the Castle Rock ST make it an excellent option for any trailer application."
Apparently they are sturdy and resist unforgiving road conditions. It's too bad they can't handle the rigors of the spare tire rack.

Thanks for your input. Hope others will learn from your experience and make a decision prior to their possible problems

That's the main reason I got a white spare tire cover...
Still, no excuse for blowing up when just hanging off the rear bumper.

I would hate to know what could happen if just the tire was lying on the ground....
And this thread is why I'm getting new Goodyear Endurance tires to replace the stock new tires....
