Grey Wolf 26dbh - utensils and garbage

Hello there!
We just upgraded from a pop up to our first travel trailer and are swapping over all our stuff. I know this has been asked before, but wanted to comment and the thread was old:

For this that have the SAME model-
Where do you all store your garbage/garbage can?
And
What's in your two drawers in the kitchen?
I hate to store my utensils in one of the giant drawers and waste all that space. Where do you store yours?
Wish there were 3 shallower (is that a word?) drawers instead. Otherwise I am LOVING all of the room. Can't wait to take it out!

We use a cheap trash can from walmart that has a slide open/close top. If standing at the sink we put it on the left back side of the sink and have no issues going in or out. We have yet to use the furnace but we would have to be careful not to cover the vent if we did. When traveling it is emptied and laid on it's side on the dinette seat.

The drawers are WAY too big for silverware, you will lose too much space using it like that. We do put in the top drawer most of our cooking utensils with clean hand towels/wash cloths over the top as well as anything small that fits.

One thing that helps us is we use plastic silverware and paper plates. If we were full time we would have silverware but just camping throughout the year it makes much more sense for us. Ozark trail (yeti style stainless cups) in our camper are worth their weight in gold. So far I would say we have ample indoor storage. The pantry is so large we use bottom shelf for towels and still have room to spare.

I use the top drawers for utensils and lower drawer for cooking ware utensils, yes i loose a lot of space but that's just me. As for the trash cans I use small black office cans that measure 6x12. I place one under the sink and another in the bottom of bathroom(I removed the board from bottom part of Cabintry).

We made some utensil sleeves that hung on door on our wolf pup. We're going to reuse them in the new 26dbh. Just haven't figured out where yet. The smaller will fit on the inside face of the top drawer. Check out the pictures here https://m.facebook.com/pg/JRTs-Perso...64577340251288.

We have a 26BH and we wish we has 3 smaller drawers too. My wife found a rack somewhere that fits perfect and we put a utensil tray on that and we can store plenty underneath.

I don't have same model but do have grey wolf/Cherokee. This is what I did for deep drawers. Of course this is based on how confident you are in your skills.



Bought a bamboo silverware tray from Big Lots, took some trim and made a channel for it to slide in. Cut some of the back of drawer to allow the tray to slide. Works well.

That's pretty awesome. I do have to ask. Why install the trim on the top rail? If you ever wanted to take the tray out don't you have to remove the trim? Also what did you use for "rails" for the bamboo tray to ride on? What did you use to attach?

The trim on top was so the drawer does not tip. I just used some 1x1 strips of wood for bottom. I do not take out the tray. I use it just like I use my tray at home. Take silver out use with place settings then put back. I have a separate set of flatware for outside that has its own wire holder.

If I want to ever remove the tray just pull out the drawer then just slide tray out the back.

I used flat head screws and wood glue and clamps yo affix the rails.

May look into this. How far can you slide the drawer before its too far.

When it falls out. Lol.

No the piece of wood in the back that holds up the runners of the drawers keeps it from going too far.

Not to mention the trim I questioned

We have a 2017 26dbh and we bought a kitchen size can with a top on it and we set it in front of the oven/stove. It seems to work out pretty well there.

We also have a 26RR, I think the cabinets are pretty much stock so doesn't matter if a 26RR or 26dbh.

I did the same as rmac except I did not add the rail on the top of the silverware drawer. Remove the original drawer, measure from inside front of it to the end of the drawer, now measure from the face of the cabinet to the back wall under the cabinet ~ you'll notice a LOT of room back there not being used!

I found wooden silverware drawers either at Lowe's or Home Depot which were really close to width needed to fit inside the original drawer, only needed minor sanding on the sides.

I cut the back of the original drawer down the depth needed (as in rmac's photos), cut strips of wood which I glued and used very short staples to fix in place. The strips I glued in are much longer than the drawer (but do not touch the wall when closed) which allows us to slide the silverware tray back for access to other utensils underneath.

The tray will not fall off since the 'Rails' are much longer than the drawer. Needless to say, DW had (asked) me to do the bottom drawer the same. (??, I don't know but it made her happy)

Sorry if confusing a bit, but ramc has done a lot, no ~ a LOT, of mods which have helped many of us out.

This is a GREAT suggestion for ANYONE who has deep drawers and would like to re-claim some of that top space!

I guess the trick is to find the appropriate size ready-made top tray to save the time building a custom one. Alternatively, that's what woodworking skills and equipment are for!

I cut my top drawer in half and made it into to shallower drawers. Top is now silverware, middle is utensils and the bottom is still big. Sorry no pictures as it is currently in storage until next adventure!
