Looking at buying a used cherokee

Im new to this forum and am looking for some answers. I am currently looking at a 2005 Cherokee 28a Lite, there asking $10,500. Is this a good price? Is there any problematic areas i should look for on these trailers? I will be towing this with a 2010 Sierra 5.3L which should get the job done. Any help with this would be great. Thanks

Hello. we used to have an 05 28A. Great trailer! We had no issues with it. We loved the lay out and all the features it offered. I towed ours with a 97 1/2 ton conv. van with a 5.9L and 3.90 gear. it towed great . Ours loaded for a trip weighed in at 6500lbs, empty it was 5300 lbs. What gear ratio does your Sierra have and do you have the 6 speed auto? on the price, $10,500 sounds OK. when we bought ours we paid $16,500 that was 7 years ago! it never hurts to low ball them. tell them you really like it but your worried about the price of gas, they may give it to you at the lower price so you don`t walk away! gotta beat them at their game! Yes I used to work at a dealership.

Good luck!

i have an 07 28a+ and love it, I pull mine with a 07 Dodge Ram 1500 and it pulls great I do run a 1200 WDH with anti sway, not great on gas Mileage but that depends on truck Gm gets much better gas mileage than Dodge.
As for price that seems not bad i wouldnt take a penny less than 13000 for mine and book is 15000 so book on that 05 has to be right around 13000.
Enjoy they have a great layout.

Thanks for the replies, My Sierra has 3.42 gears but has the 6 speed so that shouldn't be an issue. They have it listed for $11,500 but i got them down to $10,000 so far. Me and the wife are going to look at more trailers tomorrow, theres an Outback and a Jayco that have caught my eye cause there lighter than the Cherokee, but we shall see what they look like in person, pictures are only so good.

Yes the new 6 speed and 3.42 is perfect. that`s like the old 4 speed and 3.73. sounds like it is a good deal from what I have been reading!

Good luck!

Thanks, i was reading on here about the 5.3 with 3.42 not being able to handle alota weight cause it doesn't have the torque needed, In my opinion it puts more torque to the ground than a FX4 with the 5.4L with 3.73. I test drove one and was not impressed, you can make a complete turn in 4lo with that truck, the Sierra jumps and barks and leaves 4 tire marks all the way around.

Yes people need to get over the old school thinking that a 3.42 equipped truck isn`t good for towing. if it has the new 6 speed the 3.42 is more than enough. yes your truck is properly equipped for towing a heavy load.

Well i would like to thank everyone that replied to my question, I bought a trailer today. I did not go with the Cherokee, but instead went with a 2008 Jayco Jayflight G2 28BHS. I got it for $12,750 it was a little more than i wanted to spend, but it has an awesome layout for the family.
