Haven't looked at the batteries yet. I do have 300w of solar tio if that makes a difference.

Nice and tidy is rarely correct. Why take a chance on damaging the inverter by exposing it to corrosive gases and water? Put the inverter inside the RV where it belongs. You MUST keep the inverter clean, dry and well ventilated.
My Renogy 2KW inverter is attached to the inside front of the trailer under the kitchen counter within two feet of the batteries. The cable run is about three feet and enters the trailer through the floor.

It does not. The specifications of the battery bank and the cables connecting it to the inverter are what determines whether those can supply the inverter adequately.

The solar panels recharge the battery but cannot supply enough current to meet the demands of the inverter.

The instructions on the inverter say not to install it in an area with the battery. My batteries are both in closed boxes, vented together with 2 hoses, and a vent coming out the front of the fifth wheel. My question is: With the batteries in boxes and vented would it be ok to install the inverter in there with the batteries, or will it cause problems like they say it will in the instructions.
My Chaparral was delivered from the factory with the inverter in the front bay with the batteries so no issue there. Later I installed a generator in the same front bay and it got too hot in there and the inverter kept overheating and shutting off, so if you have no heat issues in front, no problem. I did however have to move my inverter to the front cargo area to solve my problem, very easy move, no issues

With little research, you will find that using the largest wire gauge and shortest length possible is ALWAYS recommended for high power use.
Use sealed batteries near the inverter. Put the inverter close to the batteries.
Thinner wire over any distance results in line loss, lessening the voltage, and the loss is caused by resistance that results in heat generation (hot or burnt insulation, possible fire, or the wire may melt acting like a fuse).
