Reroute/rearrange heat ducts

As I was winterizing our new unit I was noticing all the soft heat ducting running what seems to be everywhere. To me it seems like lots of it is just laying there and that most of the runs have extra piping to them. My two questions:

-First: would shortening/cleaning up some of the runs help the heat run more efficiently?

- Second: Would it make sense to replace as much ducting as I can with the flexible insulated duct work, or some metal ducting? Not sure if that would help with efficiency when heating or not?

Has anyone done this or seen this done?

I replaced my entire duct system with heaver aluminum flex pipe, the trouble with using wireflex is that it takes up much more space because of the two inches of diameter for a given pipe size. I did use KD pipe where the Mfg had crushed the aluminum flex I just squeezed the KD to a oval. I also added dampers for even heating through the rig. Its a little work but in my case it was worth it JMHO
