want to install a motion sensor light

I have an 18 alpha wolfe. I don't understand why there is no wall switch in the bathroom. I want to put a motion sensor light in there and can't figure out how to get the light off the ceiling. And can you recommend a motion sensor light.

I think if you rotate the light counterclockwise it will release it from the metal base. The base is probably attached to the ceiling with three screws

I’ve never dealt with your exact light, is that round piece in the center the button to turn it on/off or a cap that you can pry off covering a screw that holds it on?

Or does the entire base rotate (probably counter clockwise) to all unscrew off or maybe just twist into slots?

I’d try those things first, they would have made it so you can open it to change the bulb.

Last resort, you’re replacing it anyhow, open it with a hammer..

I have many of those. That fixture will rotate off counter clockwise where the plastic changes from white to clear. It has about 2 -3 threads on mine.

Once that is removed there will be some screws holding the base to the ceiling. Careful because the rubber button in the middle will fall out after you remove the cover and can easily be lost.

No recommendations on a light, but a note of caution.
Some of these lights will turn on from a great distance and will detect motion from anywhere in your trailer.

That’s going to be dependent on your own style and budget, but I don’t think budget is going to be a big deal since you’re probably filthy rich, and ah, most the ones I seen after doing a quick search are all really cheap. In fact I kind of liked the light you want to replace better than what I seen. Amazon has one that’s motion sense 12V wired that almost looks like the one you have for $15. It says it’s 200 lumens in the description, further down it says its 300 lumens in brightness, to me that isn’t very bright, I wouldn’t even buy a pocket flashlight less than 750+.

If his bathroom is any thing like mine “a great distance” would have to be measured in inches lol, I hate my bathroom, its the only thing about my RV I absolutely hate. I guess the flip side is the smaller bathroom makes the other spaces bigger.

May not be what you want to do, but keep the door shut and the light should stay out (provided the motion sensor can't "see" through the gap at the top of the door).

It sounds like what you don’t like about that light is the lack of a wall switch, I totally get that, the bathroom walls are probably hollow and the power wires to that light might be running from underneath up inside the hollow wall and over to that light. You might get lucky and the wires might just be in the wall right where you’d want the switch. Once you get that fixture out check to see if you can tell where the wires are running to and/or if maybe adding a switch isn’t going to be that difficult. The hardest part about running a wall switch to power something on a ceiling is getting the wire past the one point where the wall and ceiling meet each other.

I would find a light you like or just add this to the one you already have...
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q346RNQ..._YwMKEbD38DAZE

You should be able to access the wiring by pulling down the light and you can place the motion sensor in an area that would only trigger when you want it to. If you end up not liking it you can turn it off with the existing switch.

Hope that helps!

Or maybe a remote control. No experience with this but someone posted it once.

There are other versions out there.

Yes, great point! They do have pwm dimmers and remotes too. Remote operation and dimming!

I am going to use yours for remote awning control....that way I can do it without letting bugs in the camper outside. Yours supports momentary connections. [emoji848]next project lining up.

I like it, I tried to look for stuff like this I use in my house on 120v circuits but in 12v about a year ago and all I was finding was very expensive garbage and even the options in that was limited for 12 volt.

I bought a stick on battery operated from Amazon. I stuck it right above the toilet so as soon as you open the door the light comes on. If it goes off and you really need the light just wave your arm. Works great.

Why not find a stick-on fluorescent glow in the dark sticker and stick it on the switch in the center of the fixture? You can then find it quickly in the dark.

I think the rv may have a switch that is outside of the bathroom. Our light switch is just outside of the bathroom (probably a safety feature)
I do like the idea of a battery operated motion detector light. With LED lights, they don't take much battery power and if the power goes off to the rig, they still work.

We just plug in a 110v nightlight in the bathroom.

I bought a 4 pack of LED lights that you can stick on anywhere inside. They are BRIGHT! They look like a light switch. The light is in the "faceplate" and there is a switch just like a regular switch. We use this just inside our main door. Our light switches are all across the hall from the mail door so this makes it easier when reentering the trailer at night. You could put one of these down low enough for the 4 year old to reach. We found ours at Menards but i am sure other stores carry them.
