What issues have you had with Grey Wolf 26DBH?

Hi all!

I am going to pick up my new 2021 Grey Wolf 26DBH. Since this is a thread for tech and repair, I am making the assumption that there is a wealth of knowledge about what I ought to be on the lookout for at my final walk through.

Knowing what you know now, what would you pay extra close attention to when looking over the 26DBH with the dealer? Where can I safe myself some time and hassle by making the dealer tighten, seal, etc.?

Very excited, but concerned since you only read the bad reviews online. Most happy campers (pun intended) don't go back and write reviews.

Thanks in advance.

I think it's encouraging that you haven't had an replies.
You just need to make certain that everything works and is explained to you. Don't sign any final papers til you're satisfied. You don't want to sign the papers and then be shuffled off to the repair shop where they are probably backlogged.

Curious about something that I think the OP might want to watch for also. With a late fall/winter pick up, won't the dealer have the unit already winterized? If so, how does one test any water-related items?

Can't check the water heater, faucets, shower, toilet, etc. if they're winterized, right? Unless the dealer is willing to winterize AGAIN after PDI, which is a laugh.

My unit is supposed to come in Jan/Feb so I'll have the same issues.

I have the 2016 27RR
Have had no major issues. I just put a coating on the roof to seal it.
It has not leaked, just maintaining it.
The usb plugs quit working the 3ed year.
Had to adjust door and I put electrical grease on the ground to the frame connection.

I would make them de-winterize and run water through so you can test then have them winterize it again. If not don’t take delivery of the trailer and ask for your deposit back. Tell them your purchase is dependent on a proper and complete PDI.

There are several "PDI checklists" on these forums. Try entering that in the search field at the top right of any page. (The search is a custom Google search of this site only. The results will look like Google search results.)

The Grey Wolf / Cherokee line is a low cost stick & tin trailer but overall I am pretty happy what I got for the cost. My only real issue has been roof leaks. They twist a lot so the front cap Dicor splits and you will need to seal it nearly every year.

Here is what I learned about the PDI. If it is a vacation unit and not a full time rig you should worry less about the items that are surely covered under warranty and focus on thing they won't repair after it leaves the lot.

After we got home we found several nicks & scratched on the cabinets. They won't fix them after PDI, there is no way you can prove it wasn't done after the fact.

Slide alignment is not covered under warranty, it is a service item. Make them run it in and out. My carpet was damaged from a misaligned slide. They did cover the carpet but I had to pay for slide service.

Look for any siding damage. Again hard to prove it didn't happen after leaving the lot. My unit was a RV show model and had a couple dings, cashback or store credit is possible.

Take your own telescoping ladder and get up on the roof while there while your DW distracts them, they won't let you go up there for safety concerns. These units are delivered by contractors who don't necessarily report if a branch scraped the top during delivery.

Again, it is all about careful inspection for damage that can't be proven to be pre-existing. They will fix anything that is broken or badly assembled after the fact but you will have great difficulty getting tham to fix cosmetic or damage issues.

Pre-emptive repair

A pre-emptive fix would be to cover this area with a strip of Eternabond as soon as you get the unit--or as soon as the warranty expires if you prefer. It comes in 3", 4", and 6" widths, in several colors. Doing this once before the Dicor caulk splits is better than trying to fix water damage later.

Take a bright led flashlight and get on the floor and look in every cabinet and space that you can access. Look for any signs of water. The wood will easily show any water marks. Just because it is new does not mean there will be no water leaks. If you find any signs of water you really need to make some fast hard choices on you purchase.

We have a 2019 26 DBH and have had no problems with the trailer itself. We bought it new in February 2019. Over Memorial Day weekend this year, the power awning motor failed. We had to replace the motor and have had no further issues. We have been very pleased with the trailer other than the awning issue.

We have 2019 23DBH Gray Wolf. We do a lot of off grid, off main road camping and needed to flip the axle to gain better ground clearance after smashing the rear stabilizers the first trip out and now we have had no problems with the clearance. The only issue we had was with the entry doors not closing to well. Make sure you close the doors from both the outside and especially the inside.

2017 23DBH; no huge issues, however;
1) every compartment, drawer, access, etc. had wood and metal shavings from manufacturing processes which I didn't catch until later and diligently shop-vacced everything clean (goes along with inspecting all spaces with a bright flashlight).
2) nuts around the perimeter of the bottom of the unit were various degrees of tight (I caught them before losing any).
3) not on the Cherokee, but on a Tractor Supply Co. trailer I bought, only 3 of the 4 wheel bearings had grease...

After a couple seasons I also had a front cap roof leak, but repaired with Eternabond tape as mentioned here.

Also had various degrees of door latch sticking, but found that is mostly user-error on how level the unit is stabilized.

Overall been very happy, and yes, as noted, you rarely hear from the happy customers!

Happy camping!

He bought our trailer new in April 2020 and our slide out leaks when closed. Will see how warranty service goes.

I bought my '21 26 DBH the first of June

It has been a great trailer, and I am sure that if I was a seasoned RVer, I would have known better about the PDI.

Everything is good enough for my use with the trailer, but there are a few things I wish I knew better on or just wished I had figured it out quicker.

-The radio either royally sucks or I don't know how to use it. I have never been able to pick up a station even within the city limits of the city the station is in. I still have no idea if the antenna is hooked up, broken, supposed to raise, or something else.

-The big drawers under the seats in the slide REALLY need drawer slides OR my fix was to add sliders under the frame. The piece of wood that "locks" the drawer closed will fail and you will need to secure them better.

-Go ahead and buy some reflectix because you will struggle to keep the trailer cool in the summer if you experience SC heat/humidity. The trailer really needs a bigger A/C or two of them.

-The shower is small for me(6'1" & 230 lbs), but I knew this going in.
The shower surround is god awful cheap plastic and I know I will need something better one day.

-The sliding doors to the Master Bedroom are useless and in the way. I will remove them one day.

-The outdoor shower leaks if you leave the water turned on to the handheld unit, but it only leaks to the outside.

I have had a couple issues that have already been repaired under warranty.
-The slide seal pulled loose across the top of the slide.
-The front door was replaced due to the door coming apart. I think the rear door is starting to do it as well, but not to the point it is broken yet.
-The slide topper I had them install held water and would actually flood to the inside of the trailer. It was redone and has more slope to let water run off now.

-I also have two windows that have warranty work waiting to be approved. The rear slide window and the bottom bunk window leaks when I wash the trailer. If these aren't approved, it will not bother me because I have a RV Carport to be installed and I monitor it well to prevent a problem

We have taken 4 camping trips and have stayed in it on our property a couple times. For the money, it is a great trailer.

I am sure you are paying less for yours than I did, but I do not regret the purchase. I have a happy family when camping in it!!
