What Kind and Color A/C unit?

I do a lot of boondocking in my 2017 wolf pup 16BHS, so I don't use the A/C much. But I'm planning a long trip next summer and I'm checking out and doing maintenance on my A/C unit. So maybe someone would know some answers to some questions.

1st - My A/C is a Dometic, seems every one I talk to has a coleman. Is this a replacement or were Dometics also used?

2nd. - The cover over the A/C unit is black. Seems everyone elses is white? Do you think the color effects its efficiency? It would be a quick and easy rattle can job to make it white? Is it worth it?

So what do you think? Am I ok or should I paint it?

Hey Rick,
I have a 2019 Wolf Pup, and it came with a Dometic A/C.
Mine is white, but I did recently see a lengthy discussion of white vs black on another forum, and one of the posters noted that it made a significant improvement on his when he painted the black cover white. It sounded like a worthwhile modification.
BTW, I've enjoyed a number of your videos on YouTube.

Thanks Virginian. mine is actually a 2020, I thought I editted it and made it correct, but now it is too old. I think I will spray it white, or maybe yellow... Black just isn't my color!

Here, have five recent pages of differing opinions on whether the shroud color matters as well as several irrelevant examples of why it does or does not: https://www.irv2.com/forums/f59/the-...ds-651855.html

If you're going to be in 110+ temps it may matter but putting a sun shade or a camping chair over the top of the unit to block the direct sun may be a better idea.

A few people with the Atwood units very recently reported over-temp shutdowns when the outside air temps were 115 in Arizona and some place else. Their thermostat gave an error code indicating the outside coil reached 154 F. A white shroud may give you a few degrees more margin but a sunshade over the unit probably would be better.

The OP had a Sample Size of Two to prove his point and one was using 20 year-old HVAC technology. Not the best of statistics that...
