What to do with the gen in rain
When boondocking, how do you use your generator in the rain?

Let it rain, it's not going to hurt it.

Here is a Google search of the forum for generator tents.
Google: FRF: generator tents
Here is a Google Search of generator tent images.
Google Generator Rain Covers
I've seen everything from a PVC pipe driven into the ground beside the generator with a golf umbrella zip tied to it... to folded up yoga mats... to plastic dog kennels... to tarps over a PVC frame... to three pieces of Coroplast (plastic cardboard)... to commercially made tents.
Let your imagination run wild!
Just make sure you give it enough air!

Ask a construction contractor about it... Run it.
But in the ultra conservative, land of weight police... Build a shed around it and put a security system on it [emoji23]

I do that sometimes.... drop the tailgate and it resides there... or under a slide out...and no... I have NO concerns of carbon monoxide with the exhaust pointed away from the R/V.

Mine is on a rear bumper platform. Two pieces of emt tubing 3' long fastened to handles of my Champ 3500 with zip ties.
A 3' x 3' tarp draped so ehaust and intake are open and held in place with bungee cords.
Keeps it dry even in a downpour.

I run mine from the truck bed covered by the tri-fold bed cover with both ends open for ventilation. Gens sit between the wheel wells, covered, ventilated, and I don't even have to unload them.

I've been using generators for construction in the rain for 20 years and the only time someone got a shock was due to a broken cord. Compo requires GFCI breakers on all jobsite generators here but guys hate them since they're notorious for being overly sensitive in the rain. I've used mostly just Honda generators, and they're built like a tank and handle the worst kinds of abuse on a jobsite and still run like they're new. If you've got a cheap make, it might be worth protecting it as they're likely not made to handle the abuse and rain could cause issues like rust or internal electronic faults. In a pinch I'd just put it under the tailgate, a little rain shouldn't hurt it. Longer term exposure I'd follow some of the ideas others have mentioned.

I have run mine in the rain and snow when I got caught unprepared. No problem.
But I do like to keep them out of the weather (especially the sun out here) so that's why, after 13 years, they still look and perform good as new.
Pic has tarp removed.

Just a simple tarp here, as we didn't use the generator too often. My main source of power is a solar system. The generator was well wrapped and the tarp secured with bungies.

I put a folded tarp over the top covering the electrical connections in the rain but leave both ends open for air in/out. I have also left it in my covered truck bed partially opened but not enough to get it out...not that it could not be pried out but just enough to not make me an easy target.

I have my generator tied down to the luggage rack on the back of the trailer. I have a tarp that's folded in such a way that it completely covers the generator when in transit, then I can remove the two ratchet straps wrapped around the generator and lift the tarp up on the ends which allows for air circulation but keeps the rain off. We've used it in some pretty hard downpours and haven't had any problems.
