What's your WP 16BHS Tongue Weights?

I have the Curt Betterweigh mobile scale and finally got around to doing the tongue weight...

and holy crap. [emoji52][emoji15]

Any other Wolf Pup 16BHS owners out there got their tongue weights I can see? Either my trailer is quite front heavy (yes, yes I know, single axle far back, I have a Black Label, yadda yadda) or I need to calibrate the Echo scale and keep trying.

The trailer is unloaded, full tank of propane, cycle 27 battery.

I don't have a BH model, but my 16FQ weighed twice on CAT scales, once was 560, the other time 580. It was mostly loaded for camping. The first time was no water in the tank, second was about 1/2 tank of fresh water.
That's when I realized I should get a WDH, since I was slightly over the F-150 tongue weight limit of 500 lbs. without weight distribution.
The axle weight was 2980.
Yours looks right to me.

That sounds about right. 540lbs on my Micro Lite 19fd (manual crank tongue jack). A friend with an E-Pro 19 with an electric tongue jack is at 600lbs.

I have an Equal-i-zer 600/6000 WDH.

The trailer tows fine. I'll trust the WDH to keep doing its thing.

With the WDH on, could I see different tongue weights at a CAT scale?

Thanks,

You should see the same weight, with the addition of whatever the WDH weighs.
If you weigh on the scales, with and without WDH, you can see how much weight is being transferred between front and rear axles.
I would suggest hitting the scales at least once, loaded up, just so you know how much you weigh when you head out.
I'm jealous of your trailer axle! My Adventure package included the "Upgraded" 3500 lb. axle.

The Adventure package on the Wolf Pups is worth every penny!

This is why so many of us here, try to educate newbies regarding the higher loaded tongue weights of single axle TTs. These things are marketed to owners of smaller tow vehicles which have lower hitch capacity numbers.
It's similar to the RV Industry's so-called "1/2 Ton Towable 5th Wheels" marketing scam.

Goes to show that whatever the manufacturer states, add 100 lbs to it!

What's your WP 16BHS Tongue Weights?

Is this Curt Betterweigh pretty accurate? Thinking I might need to grab one of these to see what my 16BHS Limited tongue weight is.

I'd say the TV/Trailer weight measurement is +/- 500 pounds, and doing a manual calibration for your tow vehicle first fully unloaded and you being honest about your driver weight makes a big difference. For a $99 thing, a 500 pound range seems worth it to get a general idea of overall weights. I like the Betterweigh. CAT scales are best, but this has been nice to have.

Payload weight is surprisingly accurate. I did a load test with 200# of paving stones and the dial came back in the 210 range.

As for tongue weight and WDH measurements, I can't attest to those just yet. I need a control experiment and that means CAT scale or a $150 tongue scale.

You do need to be on a relatively flat road or parking lot. Even a minor grade pushes all of your weights higher due to the extra strain on the automatic transmission.

One thing to know: you cannot have the Curt Betterweigh and Curt Echo wireless brake controller on the same phone. If you use the Betterweigh app, it erases the connection for the Echo. I discovered that the hard way.

I read that as 580, Max 585# at most Really wish they would have digital readout ;(

You need to be level for all measurements including tongue weight.
Even though Curt bought out the BetterWeigh from Haulgauge, you’d think they would fix both to work together.
Yes, that measurement is entirely reasonable. Mine was about
655# last April and 695# completely loaded to camp locally last fall for the only camping last year. Both measurements were with my Haulgauge, most camping items kept in the trailer at all times except food, clothing, toaster & coffee maker. A biggie with both was a full water tank after dewinterizing & testing/cleaning out the plumbing and not draining any before camping. I also moved the spare tire to under the front bed and had cut off the spare bracket from the factory rack for clearance. Additionally, I swapped out my manual tongue jack to electric with now a Jack-E-Up removable base plate before those weights.
I will return to NOT hauling much water, if any in the FW tank. Although it towed alright, my WDH is rated 400-600# tongue weight.

My vote is for a Sherline scale. Then you can use it for different trailers or other things.

Just looked, no updates for the Curt BetterWeigh app.
I’m going to try it on my IPad next time I use it.
Right now the OBD plug in is pulled from the jack as part of my troubleshooting a remote start issue. I don’t think it affected that but my aftermarket remote start uses a Y cable on the OBD. I reinitialized the remote start and that’s been working fine.

I have the FQ and doesn’t have the actual TW BUT has the CAT Scales weight for TV/TT loaded on way to camp. Assuming 13% weight of the TT for TW=496, do I still need to add the WHD/bars?

What does your VW's owners manual says about WDHs?

You get axle weights and GCW so you can tell if you are within those weight ratings.
That’s it.
That’s a huge assumption with little basis in reality.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I had 695# tongue weight (with full FW). My TT weighed 3500#! Haulgauge values. 19.85%!

VW doesn’t recommend one. I don’t belive any European brand SUV recommends WHD.

And we don’t exactly have the same model. Main question is, does one add the weight of the WHD/bars to the assumed TW. I believe FR is calculating TW as TT UVW * .14648631 based on their website data;on that assumption my TW is 559.58 without WHD/bars.

Simple way to reduce your tongue weight, but controversial. On Wolf Pups the Black Tank is located at the far rear of the trailer behind the axle. The Gray tank just in front of the Black with most of it still behind the axle. The Freshwater tank is located in front of the axle. So, make sure that your Freshwater tank is empty and your Black tank is full of water. This will increase your Gross weight, but lower your tongue. Now, should you do this?......... and the peanut gallery chimes in!

Neither does Honda. That's why I would never tow a full height TT with a Honda or European vehicle.
The loaded tongue weight would dictate a WDH, especially with a single axle TT. Even a F150 says to use a WDH when the loaded tongue weight is 500lbs or more.
